but wait, the FReepers assured me it was all good... I can't believe all the pedo enablers these days.

When reading these instant messages, has anyone yet considered how the "kid" was responding to Foley and egged him on? Or does the (at that time) 16-year-old bear NO responsibility to what was going on? Did anyone force his fingers to move on the keyboard? NO? In the very few exchanges I have read (and I'm not excited to read any more, either), I don't see a whole lot of reticence by the "kid" in refusing to engage in these exchanges.
That Foley was wrong from the first get-go is a given. That he resigned immediately was a good thing. That the so-called "kid" was only a victim in all this begs some obvious questions, at least from me. Maybe someone can answer for me whether we now know from WHERE and WHAT SOURCE these exchanges - e-mails & text messages -originated and WHY were they held back for this length of time? (Duh..) The sad part about part of this is HOW it is being used by the opposition Party; NOT to do what is RIGHT, but rather, to DESTROY every Republican they can make this whole thing stick on. That's the truth, and the Dems can't stand the truth. They never will, either.

the editorial of Blankley's paper should be, "Who the hell had evidence of his perversion and suppressed it until October?!" We all know the answer to that.

I think that an American congressman also had to wait while he finished.

If I was a republican on one of these talk shows I would constantly bring up Clinton being serviced by Monica and point out that at least Foley stepped down. I would pose questions as to why a married man who took advantage of a young intern did not have enough honor for the presidency, and for his own legacy, to resign for the good of the country.

"Clinton was wrong and a liar, but he did it with an adult (albeit younger) female." Careful bubba, your bias is showing.

interrupted a vote on the floor of the HouseUh, no. Stepped away from the floor for it, perhaps, but he did not interrupt anyone else on the floor of the House. That statement is what you call reaching...
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

I have a feeling this is ANOTHER Dan Rather and Valerie Plame trek by the Dems. It's the same pattern.
Maybe Barney Frank will feel some compassion and offer Foley a place to rest his head.

How the hell can they verify that those new IMS are, in fact, real?

The Miami Herald, no right wing rag there, didn't feel that the story was sufficient for them to run it. The emails seem insistent, but there is nothing actionable there, unless...you decide that there is some other factor that warrants a criminal probe.
Let's do a for instance. Suppose those emails came from the manager of a Burger King to a former employee, who at the time was 16. If, based on the contents of those emails alone, the Burger King regional manager fired the manager, would Burger King:
- Be sued for 1 million dollars and settle?
- Be sued for 10 million dollars and settle?
- Be sued for 10 million dollars and lose?
- Go out of business?
And keep in mind that Foley is not even an employee of Hastert.
Next scenario: If local law enforcement were to, based on the contents of those emails from the BK manager to the employee, conduct a criminal probe and try to get a search warrant for the manager's personal computer and AOL account, would the presiding judge:
- Laugh it out of court?
- Rule the ADA in contempt?
- Ignore the request and ask the ADA to pretend for his own sake that the request was never made?
- Bring the ADA before the bar on ethics charges?
Also, keep in mind that Hastert never saw the emails. It was just Alexander and the head of the page program (I forget who he is) who actually saw them.
Well, there was Alexander's staff and we suspect that the emails may have leaked from there, against the express wishes of the page's parents.

These IMs are from 2003! Isn't it interesting how these things are only coming out now? They weren't used in the 2004 Presidential election, which lead me to believe no one knew about it back then. |

What we're seeing now is Howard Dean's "October Surprise." The Dems made a political calculation to get there first with their's to blunt the effect of Rove's. We'll see who made the better political move on November 7th. I think this October Surprise was supposed to be launched in a few weeks but the Dems pressed the panic button after the Path to 9/11, the stockmarket rocketing, gas prices going lower and Slick Willie going off on Wallace with bold face lies. They pushed the button too soon. This will be forgotten in a few weeks.

I wonder how the Rats over at DU are taking this? Is Foley their new hero because of his alternative life style?

Um..no. SIXTEEN is the age of consent in Washington DC, whether you like it or not.
And get your definitions straight - PEDOPHILE is someone who prays on prepubescent children not young adults

If the boys are over 16 in Washington D.C., I believe that the only crime on your list would be providing alcohol. Apparently a Dem did just that with his Page--that then had sex with him--back in the 80's. The Washington Post jumped all over the pages for making the accusations, saying they were not credible witnesses and that they were trashing the reputation of a Congressman.

Another story on Foley? The repubs? the dems? who?

This is a secret Rovian plan to get more gays in the RNC.
To: Howlin
52 of them? Yeah, I'd like to know that also.
Are 52 IM's going to come to light that have been saved from 2003, from different people?
