How Will Media Handle ‘Bimbo Eruptions’ Now?

The Sun reported over the weekend that former president Bill Clinton is being a naughty boy again:

Ashton Kutcher, star of MTV’s Punk’d, said Clinton, 61, gave Demi, 43, the eye at a recent bash.

Kutcher, 28, told US chat show host Jay Leno that he felt like the invisible man while the three ate together.

He said: “I met Bill Clinton once but he didn’t really talk — he was hitting on my wife.”

Although this certainly shouldn’t come as much of a shock to any seasoned Clinton watcher, a few questions are raised. First, as this is a British newspaper, what is the likelihood of it being reported here in America?

Yet, maybe more important, as the media are now in a full-court press to assist the former president in revising history to further his legacy, how will members of the mainstream press deal with “bimbo eruptions” in the future, especially if Hillary does indeed make a run for the White House in 2008?

After all, the public might have been exceedingly prurient regarding this issue when he was the president. However, such behavior as the First Gentleman might not be as acceptable.

Only time will tell.
