Years ago, I was at a forum on British tv at the New York Museum of Broadcasting. Two or three panelists (John Mortimer was one) was going on about how silly and childish American television was. Finally, a man in the back of the audience called out, "Not like Benny Hill, of course..." To be fair, the British panelists laughed out loud at that and David Frost leapt to our defense.
I loved Benny Hill! :)
Great story! I have told my children many times, "Jealously is perhaps the most powerful emotion". I would venture to say that those U.S. citizens who have traveled greatly have experienced it in many ways. (This is not to overlook the obnoxious Americans I've seen overseas - truly an embarrassment!)
