Reaction to the online gaming legislation passed in a late night pre-recess session in Congress has been one of outrage as poker lobbying organizations and support groups prepare for the future.
Late Friday evening, Congress was able to link a bill regarding online gaming to the latest bill regarding American port security. This bill, which was enacted to prevent another situation such as the Dubai scenario earlier this year (which would have awarded security rights for several coastal cities to a Muslim country), was virtually guaranteed to pass through the Senate. It was with this bill that Senator Bill Frist, Senator Jon Kyl and others were able to stake their online gaming bandwagon on.

My husband and I make online bets on the football games.
Every year we start with a certain amount and see what we can make. We have alot of fun doing it and we get a little cheap entertainment. A typical bet for us is $5 and if we are really feeling lucky $20.The $20 bets usually happen after we have made some money. We also like to put together big parlays and teasers for fun. Usually we break even every year.
I really have a problem with the government telling me that we are criminals for doing it. We are productive members of society and aren't hurting anybody. Besides, they get enough of our money every year from taxes.
Spend and tax Congress. None of my business if people want to throw their paychecks away on online gambling. It's their money, not the gubmint's.

I'm upset about this aspect of it too. And like I told the other poster it is only in Vegas that you can play the sports book legally. I don't even think you can do it at the Indian-run Casinos.
This really does stink, because I can put in $100.00 an pretty much go the whole season on it.
Unless poker sites start banning US players, which basically puts me out of playing poker, since it's at least a 3 hr drive from the nearest B & M for me.
Believe it or not you have. The backlash from this is going to be bigger than they ever imagined.
Nope, wrong. Care to try again?
The thing is for alot of us... Banning me from playing on the internet, wont get the casino an extra dime from me... they dont offer what I want to play... Just a cheap tourney under $5... whether multi table or single table. The indian casinos here only do rebuy tourneys and are at least $20-30 buy in, with unlimited rebuys. I went to Vegas a few months ago and wanted to play a poker game. They had single table tourneys for $60 with $15 of that going to the house. The one I play online is $1 with .10 going to the house. If I get lucky there, then maybe next time I will try a $5 + .50 game. Not that it really needs more growth, but WSOP entries will drop next year because of this!
Think Proxy.
Please elaborate, if you don't mind doing so.
I am not going to vote Democrat, but I don't think I'm going to vote. It'll be the first time that I've missed a congressional election.
So this "issue" is more important to you than impeachment or the war on terror?
