How many times do they have to say republican in this article???

Foley, 52, a six-term Florida Republican, resigned after ABC News reported he sent messages containing references to sexual organs and acts to current and former congressional pages.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said House Republican leaders should be questioned under oath on how much they knew of Foley's e-mails to male pages, the teenagers who answer telephones, deliver documents and run other errands for members of Congress.

The scandal, breaking just weeks before the November 7 election to determine control of Congress, has shaken Republicans who often accuse the Democrats of being weak on moral issues.

Foley was chairman of the House caucus on missing and exploited children, and the author of the key sexual predator provisions of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which President George W. Bush signed in July.

Reid in a statement said the allegations against Foley were "repugnant, but equally as bad is the possibility that Republican leaders in the House knew there was a problem and ignored it to preserve a congressional seat this election year."

Do you know how old the "child" was who got the IMs? Thought not.

-Did he know he was chatting with a teen and just how old was this teen?, i.e., was what he did criminal? -How would he know the age? Do these chatrooms try to limit accessibility to adults? -Was he using government property for this, as Clinton did?

The teen he was chatting with was a congressional page under 16 years of age. He knows how old pages are. He is also co-chair of the congressional caucus on exploited and abused children. There was no chat room. He knew the page in question. It was instant messanging. I dont know if he was using government property but he was probably using his office computer. According to other pages, he would hit on them in the halls of congress. Dont get the idea this guy was framed. The leadership knew that he was dicking around and told him to lay off.

Congressional pages must be 16 years of age on or before the day on which they start serving. That information is available at numerous congressional web sites.

I suggest before trying to make this scandal even worse, you should check your sources and quit spreading rumors.

I have noticed you "stirring the pot" on other threads, but this statement you made is completely untrue, and I am calling you on it.

Ok, I will accept your word on that. I thought I read somewhere that he was under 16 but then what does it matter, the boy was a lot younger than Monica.

Yes I have been stirring the pot. I'm furious with Foley's irresponsibility and hypocracy. Where does he get off co-chairing a caucus on exploited and abused children.

Good. If he's really a perv there's a chance that he diddled a kid. He belongs on the Sex Offender registry if true.

Think hard about that question, do you really want an answer to where he "gets off?"

You don't have to accept my word on it. Look it up.

I am not defending Foley at all, but there is no need to make this scandal trashier than it already is. Foley has resigned and if he violated the law, he will be prosecuted. Hastert has asked the DOJ to investigate. I don't think there is anything else to be done, unlss you want to go down the Nancy Pelosi witch hunt trail.

There has been no "hetero" carrying on with the pages.

You seem to have missed something here ~ Foley wasn't carrying on with pages, but with EX-pages.

Ever since the Studds/Crane scandal the House has kept a good eye on page behavior, and there are severe penalties for Congress-critter/page interactions.

Yeah.... if Foley had just changed party affiliations when he got caught..... he probably could have kept his job.

One poster yesterday noted that according to various sources Foley used a hotel room and signed up through his AOL account.

Which, of course, leads us to some interesting questions like: (1) Who tracked him down to a hotel room, (3) Who tracked him down through AL..... etc.

Looks like someone had done some detective work earlier ~

I'll bet that these pages are very politically connected partisans. What remains to be seen is whether the IM's are authentic or fabricated out of whole cloth. Maybe Mary Mapes has gone to ABC to break the story.

This is the Republican congress that couldn't wait to get rid of Tom Delay. They are willing to cover up for a homosexual predator. The only reason this was allowed to go on was political correctness. If the pervert, as a Republican, had been harassing female pages he would have been hammered long ago.

Yes, someone did. That someone could be

1. The recipient of said IM's or his parents
2. News people who had this information and kept it for use at an advantageous time
3. Democrat staffers with contacts in the gay community 4. Republican staffers with contacts in the gay community
5. Congressional staff in charge of the page system

I think the LAST people who would have known about the salacious IM's (and not the e-mails, which were a bit too friendly but NOT salacious) and failed to act would have been Republican leadership. They care about their jobs, if nothing else.

Um, nope. The one who got the e-mails was 16. Nobody knows anything about the one who got the instant messages.

I don't use IM, but I looked at the Microsoft IM menus this morning and there is no "save" command. So, how does one get a transcript? Who saves it for three years and then gives it to ABC? Makes me wonder if Mary Mapes has moved. Does anyone think that when Monica Lewinsky educated us about phone sex that she was talking about communication this tame?

The former pages themselves have been sending IM transcripts in to ABC news. I wonder how many of these transcripts are for real - and how many are manufactured. For that matter, how many people have the *same* computer they had three years ago? Or think to transfer all their IM and/or chat transcripts over to the new one? This one stinks of a witch-hunt.
