Blog: The Sexually Explicit Internet Messages That Led to Fla. Rep. Foley's Resignation

Maf54: You in your boxers, too? Teen: Nope, just got home. I had a college interview that went late. Maf54: Well, strip down and get relaxed.

Another message:

Maf54: What ya wearing? Teen: tshirt and shorts Maf54: Love to slip them off of you.

And this one:

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny? Teen: A little. Maf54: Cool.

The language gets much more graphic, too graphic to be broadcast, and at one point the congressman appears to be describing Internet sex.

Federal authorities say such messages could result in Foley's prosecution, under some of the same laws he helped to enact.

"Adds up to soliciting underage children for sex," said Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent and now an ABC News consultant. "And what it amounts to is serious both state and federal violations that could potentially get you a number of years."

If the person was 16, Foley's not a "pedophile." A pedophile is someone who gets off on PRE-teenage kids -kids who have not yet reached sexual maturity.

The age of consent in Washington DC is 16.

The page did not work for Foley.

Will you all feel better if Foley gets replaced by a Democrat?

This is from Mark Foley's webpage regarding the issue of children:

As a founder and co-chair of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus, Mark has been instrumental in the development and passage of legislation designed to protect our children.

He authored legislation that became law -- the Volunteers for Children Act -- that gives volunteer organizations that work with children, such as scouting and sports groups, access to FBI fingerprint-based background checks to ensure that they are not inadvertently hiring child molesters.

He has also cosponsored legislation toughening the penalties levied at those who hurt children and, most recently, has joined forces with the Administration and Congress to fight child predators. His Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, which has passed both the House and Senate, will overhaul the way we track and monitor predatory pedophiles. He has also introduced and cosponsored legislation designed to eliminate child pornography and exploitive child modeling web sites.

Over the years, Mark also has worked closely with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and John Walsh (host of Fox TV’s America’s Most Wanted) on a variety of child protection programs. Among the latest of these is a program designed to show children how to protect themselves from online predators.

I don't care what the legal age of consent is, 16 is too young...

Are their any Conservatives that can run now, even as an independent?

I don't know honestly if they knew about the IM's. But let me be blunt. I have known the rumors about Foley being gay for years. I am a political nobody. The DC folks know this rumor too. Couple that with emails asking 16 year old boys for photos, and they should have done something. I pray they ONLY knew about the emails, but it is bad enough.

"how do you treat a 16 year old boy who chooses to have sexual conversations with an adult?

You punish the adult. In our case, you punish Foley.

That was an easy question. Next!

This seems like it could be political entrapment?

If so, I'm glad the dems did it. I don't want my Republican party to be infected with roaches like Foley. The dems can be the party of filth like Bawney Fwank.

He's done. Cooked. He said so himself.

We now have to look for a good write-in replacement.

After this he didn't stand a chance in the election. Would you stick around for the campaign ads? Imagine every photo op he ever took with the Boy Scouts, National Merit Scholars, etc.etc. plastered on ads...that's in addition to the fact the guy is a whack-a-doo...In my opinion, the fewer Republican whack-a-doos, the better.

I know the answer is easy. I'm just wondering how the hot for teacher crowd who says its ok for a 16 year old to have sex with a female teacher would possibly have any issue with this?

Do you have children?

Would you want your son or daughter to be chatting on IM with a 50 + year old pervert? Yes I said pervert. This guy Foley was playing the good guy about protecting young people from the very thing we all see that he was doing.

Maybe he got confused, he thought you were supposed to "do it to the children" and not "do it for the children."

He's the basic gay cruiser of teen boys - but of course he'll get away with it, because the age of consent for "gay sex" seems to have been dropped to about five.

"That may be, but it seems ridiculous for a Republican to resign when he hasn't done anything illegal.

I thought about that myself. Why would he resign for exchanging emails and IM's? Now we find out that he has a history and there is much more. He knows that it all may come out and so he chose to resign. He had no other option but to resign - he has tainted the Party.

We now need a replacement asap and should not be bickering among ourselves.
