Democrats hang on (remember "Cool Money" William Jefferson?)

also .. remember Gary Condit ??

Though he lost his seat (in a mostly pubbie district) the dems backed him all the way

Try not to lecture me, okay?

I was making a comment, not an excuse.

I don't care if Conyers becomes a chairman and Pelosi becomes Speaker as a result.

Stupid.

This is about the coverup

When you can show that Republicans had knowledge of the sexually explicit correspondence that Foley was having with minors or that they disregarded complaints you will be right.

They are already saying this----"this comes from the party that touted its 'moral values' superiority over the Democrats" and then defending Clinton---"he was a grown man with a grown woman"....blah, blah......

They are loving this in DUmmie land.

I like that thought. It's appropriate for all political egomaniacs.

Foley problem prescribes to the theory that he did this because he could.

The guy's a child molester in GOP clothing. Kind of reminds me of the same MO of priests in the Catholic church.

"Sucks to be him."

True words there. I notice that any Foley related website is down. And his main one has nothing but a statement. He will not be heard from again.

Would you have said that it was merely interesting that this information was known, but withheld if Foley were a Dem and Dems had withheld the information?

Stupid.

It's not because there must be accountability for crap like this, even if it's distasteful. We can't just say that the GOP in Congress can do whatever the hell they want out of fear of Conyers and Pelosi, because that will lead us to be taken advantage of (which has probably already happened).

The resignation rocked the Capitol, and especially Foley's GOP colleagues, as lawmakers were rushing to adjourn for at least six weeks. House Majority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Washington Post last night that he had learned this spring of inappropriate "contact" between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he then told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Boehner later contacted The Post and said he could not remember whether he talked to Hastert. It was not immediately clear what actions Hastert took. His spokesman had said earlier that the speaker did not know of the sexually charged online exchanges between Foley and the boy.

FL-16 is one; Weldon is another; and I've decided that Pryce is probably not much better off. I didn't say it was exclusively due to the Foley situation. The bigger problem for the GOP is that a whole slew of polls have been released the past few days that almost uniformly give the GOP worse numbers than my ratings would've predicted. The only exception has been PA-06.

I made the "interesting" comment because it WAS interesting to me that they had known for a long time.

I suggest you read my other posts before you lecture me on how I should feel/think about this.

The 'cover-up' story has become the dems and the MSM talking points and there is absolutely no evidence that the GOP leadership knew about the sexual PM's to the former pages until yesterday. You know the thing that pisses me off most is that Mr. Pervert Foley has just walked off and left the whole pile of crap out there. He is the one that needs to answer questions to law enforcement, the media, the Congress and the American People!! Why has he not been arrested yet?

He should have swiched parties, raped a few women and ran for president.

Mahoney is half owner of a business that has been fined for security law violations, and has some failed business issues. Negron has a million bucks left from his failed AG race that he can't use, but may be able to raise money from his donor list in a hurry. He will certainly need to. This one is a follow the money watch. If we don't see a lot of GOP money in a hurry, then yes, this seat is a write-off. I also did not find Negron a particuarly arresting personality when I saw him interviewed on the Palm Beach Post site. I would put the seat in the top half of your tossups at present, maybe around number 12 or so.

We need a Pryce poll. It has been awhile. Are the Dems funding independent ads?

This article says the kid was giving media interviews about this in November. Is this when Foley was asked about it by the house ethics panel?

I have the Foley seat at #9 on the cusp between Toss Up and Lean Dem, and I'm very content with that for the time-being. I think this'll be a much tougher hold than it appears you think. It's only a 54% Bush district and that's just really not much cushion for the GOP to work with this year. In the final outcome, I'll be fairly surprised if a marginal open seat with a sex offender on the ballot is a GOP hold.

House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Washington Post last night that he had learned this spring of some "contact" between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), and that Hastert assured him "we're taking care of it."

By the GOP leaders in Congress, it was well known that he was gay, that he had sketchy interactions with minors (and minors who worked in Congress, specifically), and that he had used the internet to interact in suspicious ways with minors. That's actually quite a bit of evidence, without the benefit of the IMs.

"Congressman Foley asked about the former Page’s well-being after Hurricane Katrina and requested a photograph. When asked about the email exchange, Congressman Foley said he expressed concern about the Page’s well-being and wanted a photo to see that the former Page was alright." -- John Shimkus

Is there any FReeper that would be as retarded as Shimkus apparently is? I doubt it, and I doubt Shimkus is that retarded, either. Rep. Kildee was not told about this. If it was all so innocent and there was no suspicion, why keep this from him? He's the only Democrat on the board and he was made unaware that a guy who was known by most all on Capitol Hill to be interested in men was possibly interested in very young men, including those working inside Congress. John Boehner knew about his interactions with the page in question at least this past Spring, and if he didn't pass this along to Hastert and others, it would likely be because he didn't want them to have to worry about being involved in this mess-- but he knew it was a mess, because, again, he's not retarded.

Just look at this from the standpoint of these people having some sense about the real world, not that they are all 5 year old girls who believe in pixie dust and unicorns. It doesn't pass the smell test that anyone in Congress would have found out about the emails and thought they were perfectly innocent and reasonable communication.
