Just breaking on CNN
If I can see that, what's the matter with Hastert and the RNC? And why cover for a known pervert?
My head is spinning.
I agree.
Mine is too. I'm almost afraid to go to sleep for fear what tomorrow might bring.
If this things picks up a head of steam, we could very well lose the House over this.
You can bet your house that somewhere in D.C. some "war room" is thinking of ways to make that happen as we type.
The article is unclear. Who is Shimkus?
Carl Forti, who is with the GOP campaign organization, might just be compiling and relaying info learned today. It isn't clear whether he or the organization knew before today, unless Shimkus is part of the organization.
Shimkus is one of the representatives in charge of supervising the page program, I believe.
This entire thing could have and should have been handled very differently. It's a nightmare scenario now and you bet that there is some damned Dem "war room" being held, as we type.
From the article you posted above: Forti said, however, that the matter did go before the House Page Board the three lawmakers and two House officials who oversee the pages.
Is this what you wanted?
Shimkus is fairly low-key congressman from southern Illinois who's obviously getting a lot more than he bargained for as chair of the normally uncontroversial House Page Board....
The chairman of the House Page Board, Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., released a statement saying he was made aware of the e-mail exchange in late 2005, investigated the matter and believed no impropriety had occurred. He said Foley told him he was a ''mentor'' to the page. Shimkus also said he and the House clerk told Foley to cease contact with the page anyhow, that Foley agreed to do so and that Shimkus heard no further complaints.
Shimkus said he now will investigate the matter anew: ``It has become clear . . . Congressman Foley was not honest about his conduct.''
Yep......and I posted it myself........LOL
Found this:
THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PAGE BOARD
In 1982 the Speaker's Commission on Pages recommended that "responsibility for the administration of the Page program be centralized in a Page Board, established by statute...... The statute reads, " Until otherwise provided by law, there is hereby established a board to be known as the House of Representatives Page Board to ensure that the Page program is conducted in a manner that is consistent with the efficient functioning of the House and welfare of the Pages." The statute was adopted by the 97th Congress. The first Members of the House Page Board were appointed in November of 1982. The Board consists of two Members from the Majority party selected by the Speaker, one Member from the Minority party selected by the Minority Leader, the Clerk of the House and the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House.
As of January 2003, two of the members of the House Page Board are Shimkus and Wilson of New Mexico. I don't know how often they change.
We know there's a 'war room' on Whitehaven St. and another on Old House Ln. where they are laughing themselves silly tonight.
The majority members seem to be Shimkus and Heather Wilson from New Mexico. I haven't found a minority member yet.
You're getting silly. Might be time for bed.
Hell, damn, and blast! :-(
One former page tells ABC News that his class was warned about Foley by people involved in the program. Other pages told ABC News they were hesitant to report Foley because of his power in Congress.
Can you hear me groaning up there?
The current House Page Board consists of John Shimkus (R-IL), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and Dale Kildee (D-MI) - along with the Clerk of the House and the Sergeant at Arms.
All that means to me is that ALL of them were Republicans except ONE Democrat.
There's going to be hell to pay.
Well, Dale Kildee the Democrat is claiming that he wasn't informed about any of this.
What I cannot figure out is "who."
Almost everybody has weighed in on this -- except two.
Ben Chao.
and
Chris Lehane.
