During HS, some prof from the local college came and talked about Shakespeare.
Turns out some of his stuff is pretty racy, if not outright pornographic, but you have to know the language and references.
Even though he was married, I imagine old Willy boy got more than his share of time in the saddle!
Yet, I find the writing in Song of Songs to be quite erotic, far more than today's bodice-ripper (I remind you again, this is found in the Holy Bible):
Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my lover among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
He has taken me to the banquet hall,
and his banner over me is love.
Strengthen me with raisins,
refresh me with apples,
for I am faint with love.
His left arm is under my head,
and his right arm embraces me.
Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
until it so desires.
I remember the explanation about what "get thee to a nunnery" REALLY meant in those days!
