RANGEL: AN ATTACK ON BUSH IS AN ATTACK ON ALL AMERICANS... 'You do not come into my country, my congressional district, and you do not condemn my president. If there is any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not. I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president, but do not come to the United States and think because we have problems with our president that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our Chief of State'...
"The only thing that was real was the press conference"
I agree, Rangels usual degree of "passion" (feigned or otherwise) was simply not there today....I have no doubt he'd have really liked to join in Chavez' bashing, but the o'nite numbers restrained him and he has no problem in being unfaithful to himself for partisan purposes, being the unscrupulous dog he is.....
I will give him credit for saying SOMETHING, but it really does smack of opportunism. It makes me think they saw how badly Hugo's comments reflected on the left in overnight polling, and they decided to distance themselves from their mouthpiece. After all, most of the Dem "leaders" have said and implied worse, and it was their vitriol that made Chavez think he could get away with saying the same.
This was a backhanded compliment - Rangel first said he knew that the President and Chavez enjoyed trading comments about each other, indicating that the President was a big meanie too. While I appreciate the attempt to appear united with the President, this was not as straightforward as it sounds. There was an agenda.
He has said worse and he only spoke up because most of Chavez's statements can be traced back to his party!
As Michael Medved said today, all Rangel was essentially saying is that "We don't need your help, Mr. Chavez, in criticizing the president. If we need helping in calling Bush a devil, we'll let you know."
1. the UN is WORTHLESS &n a "debating society" &
2. the UN should be in Caracas (or anyplace else but the USA!).
UN out of the US;US out of the UN.

Glad to hear that Charlie Rangle spoke up!
The President represents all of us.....Indy, Dem or GOP and an attack on him is an attack on all of us!

Pinged a bit late and with some hesitation, since I despise the political views of Rangel and Pelose. But they're right. And though I don't expect all 535 members of Congress nor the entire administration to speak out, the silence is deafening. Secretary of State Rice, Vice-President Cheney, where are you?
I know, I'm waiting for the sky to fall or the Rapture. It must be pretty cold in Heck for Charles Rangel to "defend" Bush.
The President and his administration rise above this type of behavior, as usual.
Supper we stand on principal and everyone else eats our lunch. Since our elected republicans won't stand up for the President why should I stand up for them? I know what you are saying but there are times when you just have to come out and say something. Silence is agreeing....
Ping! To read later
Good for Charlie. I disagree with him on pretty much everything, but I don't despise him like I do most Dems.
"They have never responded to such stupidity. They tend to remain looking down into the gutter, but not playing there."
There's a difference. By coming over here and calling Bush a "devil" etc., they're not just attacking Bush, they're pissing on all of us. We're supposed to sit back, watch this, and not say anything because we don't want to "lower ourselves to their level" -- well, no. I don't agree. We're not lowering ourselves to their level by coming out and saying what the Democrats said today, we're simply sticking up for our President, our country, and our way of life.
There's a time when silence is called for. I don't believe this is one of those times. By remaining silent, we've allowed the Rats to score PR points by coming out and making indignant speeches - thereby portraying THEMSELVES as the patriotic ones in all of this. Our side simply looks like a bunch of jerks who are either too distracted by trying to think up some pork to put in a bill somewhere, or too cowardly to respond when some foreign thug spits in our faces.
The democrats must have done some overnight polling on that one.
Chavez must have created some "Sympathy for the Devil" when he stoned GW.
Even Rangel recognizes that those vicious corrupt tinpots using foul language against our President at the U.N. are REALLY aiming their contempt and hatred toward America itself and every one of us Americans -- including the Democrats!
hahaha...90% of the time it's Rangel who is calling the Prez those kinds of things. The rats must be real uncomfortable knowing that Chavez has adopted their talking points.
I disagree with Rangel on almost everything and his statement certainly seems odd, given all the undermining things the liberals have said about the President, but he is right on the one narrow point: They're Americans; tehy get to say things like that. Chavez is a foreigner. He doesn't get to say that about the leader of your, my, and Rangel's country, whether or not Democrats like Rangel may agree with him. For Americans ot say it is politics of a particualrly nasty sort. For a foreigner to say it, especially when he's in our country, is an insult to America.
Why do we let people like Chavez and Ahmedinejad into our country?
There's a YouTube Video of it
Of course not. That is a hete site -- the soft underbelly of liberalism in America today.
Have you seen the video of Chavez speaking in a place that looks like a farm? I think it's called "Chavez Gets Bush" or something like that. He's a nut for sure.
The threads are really getting HOT in SOC.CULTURE.VENEZUELA !
