The Tortoise and Those Democratic Hares
Real Clear Politics ^ | September 21, 2006 | Victor Davis Hanson

Despite their dreams of recapturing one or both houses of Congress this November, the Democrats seem determined to reprise their poor showings in 2002 and 2004. Now, as then, they are dozing in the campaign's homestretch, like Aesop's hare, lulled by rosy predictions and the premature applause of Hollywood and the mainstream press. Soon, however, they may awake to discover that while they snoozed before the finish line, George W. Bush hunkered down in his tough shell, kept his slow legs moving, and inched them out.

It's damned pathetic that one of the two political parties in this nation is, in a time of war and a historic clash of civilizations, worried most not about getting UBL, not about making Iraq work (a difficult job--since when did avoiding the difficult but necessary thing become our national obsession?), not about secure borders--but proving they're so much smarter than that dumb George W. Bush.

Seriously--that is ALL the Democrats care about. Pathetic. All joking aside--pathetic.

BTW you might want to edit the article--it repeats several paragraphs a couple of times.

The fall elections are shaping up as a pivotal moment in the life of the Democrat Party. If they fail to wrest control of at least one of the houses of Congress away from the Republicans, their pre-election bluff and bluster may well become the rallying cry of a new, even more extremist party, who celebrate everything that is un- and anti-American; much like their anti-American role models Chavez, Ahmadinejab, Chirac, Castro, Annan and Putin.

I think you are right. If the Democrats fail in this election it will split them into pieces. We may see the emergence of a new party before '08.

Probably more like Obrador in Mexico.

Democrats, their only concern is to return to power,
their only enemy, those who currently hold it.

LOL--so true. A news report on international fronts, a snapshot of Dems and Repubs -- all wrapped up in one article delivered in such a delightful way.

Before the Republicans could be born, you had to get rid of the Whigs. The leftwing moonbats have already started throwing out the moderates in the party, and look for it to get worse after the midterms as they implode again and become even nuttier. Sooner or later, the moderates in the party will either switch to the GOP or form a new party, while the DUhmmies and Kos Kommisars take the old RAT party to the wastelands reserved for David Duke, the Greens, Pat Buchanan, and the CPUSA.

Wait a second.

CBS and the NY Slimes just told me Bush's Job Approval was only 37%.

This is what CBS and the Slimes have come to.

Even when other organizationtions abandon their Fake Polling in order to retain some credibility come November as they always try to do after a summer of FAKE POLLS, CBS and the Slimes try to may themselves a warm blanket of FAKE.

Their blanket looks like swiss cheese.

Democrats, their only concern is to return to power, their only enemy, those who currently hold it.

Too many Democrat "camp followers" earn their living from government - the longer the party is out of power, the longer they have to work at Starbucks while waiting for one of those treasured Junior Policy Analyst positions to open up in the next Democrat Administration. I think it was Dick Morris who made the point a while back that if the Democrats don't win elections, they don't eat. It's life or death for them. They don't have real jobs to return to like the rest of us.

So they have villainized Bush as the lone man standing in their way of their economic success, and that amplifies the irrational hatred they feel for him. They've now gotten so irrational about the issue that they are completely ignoring the enemy who wants to blow them up - they just need to get their hands back on the levers that dispense government money, no matter what. Losing New York to a nuclear terrorist attack wouldn't be as bad to them as losing another election and being denied access to that money.

The good news is, their numbers are already shrinking, and another loss might just drive the "camp followers" out of politics altogether.

The story in NH CD1 may or may not be typical, I don't know - but here goes.

Our congressman is not quite a RINO, but is sort of a RINO wannabe. The district is about 55% GOP by registration, but it's split 3 ways like most of NH - country clubbers, libertarians, and social conservatives. Also like the rest of the state, the libertarian tendency is strong and the social conservatives are weak. The country clubbers blow with the wind (what else).

The RATs endorsed a mainstream RAT for the seat. Things being what they are, Bradley (R) was mildly to moderately threatened, depending on the libertarian fear of Bush vs. their fear of Osama. An attack would reelect Bradley, a scandal could cost him his seat.

But whadda ya know? The RATs turned out in force on primary day, canned the "official" candidate, and nominated a moonbat.

Now, all three GOP streams will line up behind the incumbent. Even the unhappy social conservatives will come out. And now the seat, it seems, is safe.

There's a big, big difference between the "generic Democrat" in a poll, and a certified moonbat who is now the nominee.

It was a good year for generic Democrats.

But if Connecticut and NH CD1 are at all representative, the "generic Democrats" are falling to moonbattery - and there will not be a moonbat majority in the House anytime soon.

Before the Republicans could be born, you had to get rid of the Whigs.

Now there is a non-sequiter if one was ever written about politics.

The corruption undesirability of organized political thought was a Key element of whig thought. Those who formed the house of cards under the whig name were simply filling a power vacuum. The whig "party" had already, by definition, abandoned the ideals and politics of the whig movement when forming the party. All it took was a light puff of air to knock it over.

Before they join the Republican Party and make it worse than it already is (with its current overabundance of RINOS), I'd rather see them take their irrational moonbattiness to a new party that is so far to the left, they hold their conventions on a pltform that extends 350 miles off the edge of the earth.

Yes - I know. The "spelling mistake" comment was a joke. And like most jokes - not very funny if it has to be explained.
