As world leaders gather at the United Nations this week to debate a host of global issues, French President Jacques Chirac said Monday that the threat of sanctions against Iran should be suspended during nuclear negotiations.

"I don't believe in a solution without dialogue," Chirac told Europe-1 radio before leaving for New York for the opening of the UN General Assembly debate.

Chirac suggested that both sides set an agenda for talks and that both make concessions to get the negotiations started. He said Iran should agree to suspend its uranium enrichment program, while the Western countries that oppose it should drop their push for international sanctions against Iran.

Chirac is spineless. It would serve France right if LePen was the next Prsident.

"I don't believe in a solution without dialogue,"

Since you want the West to unilaterally disarm itself in negotiations by ruling out a priori not just the threat of force but even non-vioent economic sanctions, then you don't believe in a solution period, since Iran will have absolutely no incentive to come to terms when we have no bargaining leverage whatsoever. The foolish appeaser!
