The mosque at Córdoba was built on the site of a church destroyed by the Muslims when they invaded. The lamps are made from the bells of the Cathedral of Santiago when it was destroyed by the Muslims and the captured Christians were made to carry the bells the hundreds of miles from Santiago to Córdoba.
