Authorities said an unidentified woman went to the family's home on Highway 47, south of Highway 30, about 30 miles southwest of St. Louis. She held the baby's mother at gunpoint and then cut the mother's throat with a fillet knife before fleeing with the baby about 12:30 p.m.

The suspect was described as white, 30 to 40 years old, 5-foot-8, weighing about 200 pounds, with dark or black hair pulled under a ball cap with a worn bill. She wore sunglasses, a black scarf around neck, a gray or brown T-shirt and blue jean shorts

Anyone with information about the incident should call 911 or the Franklin County Sheriff's Department at 636-583-2567.

Woman slashes mother's throat, takes baby

ST. LOUIS - A woman kidnapped a 1-week-old baby Friday after slashing her mother's throat, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

Police were searching Friday afternoon for the baby Abby Woods, who was wearing a pink dress with flowers on the collar when she was kidnapped.

A woman entered a rural home near the town of Lonedell, about 45 miles south of St. Louis, on Friday afternoon and held the mother at gunpoint, said Franklin County Capt. Don Jones.

The attacker slashed the mother's throat and fled the home with her child, Jones said.

Authorities did not release the mother's name Friday but said she was in stable condition and recovering in a hospital in the St. Louis area.

The mother didn't know the woman who attacked her, Jones said. Police were combing the area around Woods' house Friday to determine which way the attacker fled.

The suspect is described as a white woman who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. She was wearing a gray or brown T-shirt and ball cap with a torn bill. She has black hair.

The suspect is believed to be armed with a knife and handgun. Police said anyone who sees the woman and child should call authorities immediately.

Amber Alert issued after week-old girl kidnapped

Police issued an Amber Alert today after a week-old girl in Franklin County near St. Louis was abducted and her mother’s throat was slit.

Officers were looking for Abby Woods, who was wearing a pink dress with a flowered collar. She is white, weighs about six pounds, with black hair, blue eyes and a birth mark between her eyes.

A female assailant entered the mother’s home, held her at gunpoint, cut her throat and left with the infant, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. The woman, who lived in a rural area about 30 miles southwest of St. Louis near Lonedell, is in stable condition at a hospital, authorities said.

The injured woman called police about 12:30 p.m. after the attack and said she had been unconscious, Capt. Don Jones of the Franklin County sheriff’s office said. There is no indication how the assailant left the scene, he said.

“We have no transportation information at all,” Jones said early Friday evening. “We don’t have a vehicle, we don’t know if the suspect walked away, drove away, flew away or tunneled away. That’s the frustrating part. We really don’t have a good timeline for that. We are starting from ground zero and hoping something at the scene will indicate some type of break.”

The woman lived off a paved highway but there is a gravel road back to where she lives, Jones said.

“It is pretty rural back there,” Jones said.

The suspect is described as white, 30-40 years old, 5’ 8” tall, 200 pounds, with dark hair pulled up under a worn ball cap and wearing a brown T-shirt and blue jean shorts. She had sunglasses, a black scarf around her neck and had a female mustache, police said.
