Islamic Group Urges Muslims to Invest in Media

RIYADH (Reuters) - Muslim tycoons should buy stakes in global media outlets to help change anti-Muslim attitudes around the world, ministers from Islamic countries heard at a conference in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Information ministers and officials meeting under the auspices of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the world's largest Islamic body, said Islam faced vilification after the September 11 attacks, when 19 Arabs killed nearly 3,000 people in U.S. cities in 2001.

"Muslim investors must invest in the large media institutions of the world, which generally make considerable profits, so that they have the ability to affect their policies via their administrative boards," OIC chief Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told the gathering in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

"This would benefit in terms of correcting the image of Islam worldwide," he said, calling on Muslim countries to set up more channels in widely-spoken foreign languages.

Oh no... Just why do they think this is necessary when the media already bows and scrapes to them.

I still can't get over the fact it took the "lovely" media almost two weeks to even mention the fact that the "youth" who were burning down Paris were actually Muslim. The media....pffftt.

You mean they don't already own at least half of CNN? I am stunned! They can buy all of the media rights and I still won't change my mind.

LOL If it weren't for the French Conservative Bloggers with upclose pictures of the rioters we would never have known what they looked like either. I posted a few from a Conservative (pro-American) French Blog site at the time. Did you notice the media never showed a close up of the so-called yoooooths. Always the pictures were taken from far away and in the dark of night so you couldn't see the faces. The bloggers got good shots of the slimeballs. Thank god for bloggers.

Why should they invest in the media since they already own it?

For more than two decades the Muslim Brotherhood has sent young students from Egypt, Sudan and the Holy Land to the United States to study communications and the mind of the West. (A major conference of Muslims involved in this effort was held at Georgetown U. in 1988.) As you know, the Islamists are now excellent propagandists. That the OIC would call for investments in Western media is just the next step.

I don't see why muslim tycoons would waste their money: The drive-by media and the democRAT party has been carrying the terrorists water for years. The NY Slimes tells the terrorists all our secrets, and the democRATS in the congress are working for a "terrorist bill of rights" all compliments of the American tax-payer.

And don't we have foreign ownership rules and regulations prohibiting foreign ownership of our media?
