Many universities serve the country (and economy) by concentrating liberals
in small pockets where they can be easily watched and kept on sufficient
psychotropics.
If some of these folks were allowed to actually be on the loose, they might
be truly dangerous. Better to keep them in their echo chamber and
keep them contented with tenure and small step raises.

There's nothing wrong with the liberal arts. There's everything wrong with liberals. There is a big difference there.
I offer as proof the following VERY GOOD liberal arts colleges: Ave Maria University (in Florida), Thomas Aquinas College (in California) and Christendom College (in Front Royal, Virginia). Those are just three good Catholic liberal arts colleges.
Hillsdale is also very good.
There are others out there too.
Seesholtz was a bum in the 1980's already.
