Yesterday the President participated in 9/11 ceromonies in New York including attending a memorial service.

Today he attended a ceremony at the Fort Pitt Firehouse on the lower east side of Manhattan afterwhich he travelled to Shanksville, Pennsylvania to lay a wreath at the Flight 93 crash site.

He and the First Lady then went to the Pentagon to lay another wreath at the crash site there as in Shanksville the President and first lady met with families of those who lost their lives after the wreath laying ceremony.

Yesterday the Vice President appeared on the Meet the Press. Today he led the remembrance Ceremony at the White House joined by his specially invited guest Baroness Thatcher who also attended a memorial service with him at John's and later at the State Department.

Later on this evening the President will address the nation please feel free to use this thread as safe live thread.

I urge all that have not yet done so to check out Wolfstar's dose from yesterday where she does a fantastic timeline of the event of 11th September 2001. There are also some fantastic photos some of which you probably will not have seen before.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

His speech - but even more - his face full of resolve, full of a quiet strength - has enraged our enemies tonight - both within and without our country. But President Bush has once again given backbone to some of the wavering and hope to many who are distraught at the remembrances of death and destruction wrought on this nation.

He said the enemy sought to bring us to our knees. And we did come to our knees. But not the way our enemies sought. We joined on our knees in prayer - America's secret weapon!!!!

Thank GOD for President Bush. How tired he must be from all the events of today. When he was greeting the people in Pennsylvania, I saw him visibly sigh - but continue talking hugging, shaking hands, and signing autographs. Never in a hurry. What a President!!!

Walking to the wreath laying ceremony where the President and first lady did not have umbrellas to protect them - I suspect this was out of respect

Whoa! Hi snugs - how nice that Mrs. Thatcher is here.

I'm all pooped out hearing about 9/11 24/7 for the past 2 days. Just glad it's over. Am I a bad person?

So be it.

It was a dreadful day 5 years ago, and I think I've lived with it 24/7 for 5 years.

Anyone have a magic wand to make it go away? Please?

I did too. I enjoyed it, but I'm skipping part II. I'll wait for the DVD so I can better understand what's going on. (And hopefully the one minute that was edited out will be replaced.)
