Yesterday the President participated in 9/11 ceromonies in New York including attending a memorial service.
Today he attended a ceremony at the Fort Pitt Firehouse on the lower east side of Manhattan afterwhich he travelled to Shanksville, Pennsylvania to lay a wreath at the Flight 93 crash site.
He and the First Lady then went to the Pentagon to lay another wreath at the crash site there as in Shanksville the President and first lady met with families of those who lost their lives after the wreath laying ceremony.
Yesterday the Vice President appeared on the Meet the Press. Today he led the remembrance Ceremony at the White House joined by his specially invited guest Baroness Thatcher who also attended a memorial service with him at John's and later at the State Department.
Later on this evening the President will address the nation please feel free to use this thread as safe live thread.
I urge all that have not yet done so to check out Wolfstar's dose from yesterday where she does a fantastic timeline of the event of 11th September 2001. There are also some fantastic photos some of which you probably will not have seen before.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

nice job, snugs. thanks.
You express yourself just fine, Fudd. What matters is not eloquence, but heart.
If you'll permit me a bit of reflection on this one part of what you wrote: "Flawed human being that he is..."
The thing is, we are all flawed. Your post reflects the fact that GWB rises above his flaws to the fullest extent that it's possible for any person to do. That's what counts.
If anyone taped the events from yesterday and today, I will pay you for a copy of it. I have been working day and night to elect a very conservative congressman, to replace one of the most liberal ones and have not seen TV or the Dose in MONTHS!! We began behind because we're way out numbered by democrats, but as of now, we're tied in the polls, so hopefully we will surge ahead now that people are really paying attention. This will be a PICK UP seat for the president. I would really appreciate it if someone could send me a copy so I can watch it after the elections.
I'm working 14 hours per day for our candidate and then coming home and doing accounting until 3 and 4 in the morning and then get up and start all over again, so you can see, there's no time for TV or chatting.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out!! I'm so very sleepy I can hardly see the screen so look over any mistakes please. I miss you guys, but will be back after November 7.
Thanks so much, Snugs, for all you put into this thread. It was both a beautiful and a sad day of events commemorating 9-11 and it is wonderful to see our President and Vice President, along with Margaret Thatcher, provide such comfort to others and give us a picture of grace and strength as they remembered this tragic day five years ago. May God give comfort to all who lost loved ones that day.
Very emotional day!
President gave an interview to ABC News , you can watch it on this page.

"See you later :)"
Lookin' forward to *seeing* you later!
That was a perfect way to put the whole thing in a nutshell.
I finally got to see Vice President Cheney and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld's remarks at the Pentagon, replayed on C-SPAN. Knowing both men had been Secretary of Defense made it very meaningful. I felt badly for Mr. Cheney when he got choked up, talking about the losses.
I have a friend who works in an exceptionally busy grocery store, and he said business was really dead today. This just doesn't happen to his store. We concluded, since there is nothing going on locally, it had to be because so many customers were staying home, watching the coverage of this fifth anniversary. I wouldn't have thought people would do that in such numbers. I think we're all starting to realize, now that five years are elapsed, that this pain isn't ever going to go away for those who lived through 9/11.
If you look at a couple of the photos he is blowing his nose and I would guess that was emotion rather than a cold or alergy. Each year like Wolfstar says further down on this thread it seems to get to him more and more.
He really did deliver an excellent speech last night. Two thumbs up!
How wonderfully put Wolfie I agree
I am still drained from yesterday. God BLESS our President!
(I know how much work this took, snugs.....God BLESS you too!!)
Thanks snugs. BTW, I was watching relpays last night of events I didn't see live. I was quite touched by how much the Vice President was moved during his speech at the Pentagon.
When they were in the moment during those dark hours and days after 9/11/01, they had to control their emotions as much as humanly possible. It seems like this fifth anniversary has finally given Mr. Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, and others the chance to grieve openly for the first time. What an enormous burden they have all carried, one made much worse by the stupid, stubborn, entirely selfish and venal opposition from the Left here at home and worldwide.
It isn't enough that they have to wake up every day and face threats like the one your government thwarted just last month. They also have to face the mindless hatred deliberately stirred up against them by fellow elected officials who should know better.
Thank you very much for putting this together!
I have to add a story to some that were already told.
I collect military figures (1/6th Scale). A collector on a figure board told this story.
On Sept. 11th he worried how his little son would react to these horrific events. He thought about what to tell him to comfort and reassure him. As he paced in his den/office, he noticed that one of his GI Joe figures was missing, but he had too much else on his mind.
Finally he went to tuck his son in. He told his son that he shouldn't worry because the bad men who did these things would be punished.
His son looked at him with no fear in his eyes. He pulled back his covers, and there was his father's missing figure.
"I'm not afraid, Daddy! We've got GI Joe to protect us."
Out of the mouth of a child!
