Yesterday the President participated in 9/11 ceromonies in New York including attending a memorial service.

Today he attended a ceremony at the Fort Pitt Firehouse on the lower east side of Manhattan afterwhich he travelled to Shanksville, Pennsylvania to lay a wreath at the Flight 93 crash site.

He and the First Lady then went to the Pentagon to lay another wreath at the crash site there as in Shanksville the President and first lady met with families of those who lost their lives after the wreath laying ceremony.

Yesterday the Vice President appeared on the Meet the Press. Today he led the remembrance Ceremony at the White House joined by his specially invited guest Baroness Thatcher who also attended a memorial service with him at John's and later at the State Department.

Later on this evening the President will address the nation please feel free to use this thread as safe live thread.

I urge all that have not yet done so to check out Wolfstar's dose from yesterday where she does a fantastic timeline of the event of 11th September 2001. There are also some fantastic photos some of which you probably will not have seen before.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

Interesting observation here, you do not often see Lynne put her arm through the Vice President's arm but I remember last year where she rubbed the small of his back after the ceremony on the White House lawn. This anniversary obviously affects them and I suspect she feels he needs to feel her supporting touch on this date.

Lady Thatcher looks very good. During Reagan's funeral services she appeared frail.

snugs:
THANK YOU for posting the DOSE tonight!

I didn't think it possible, but the President exceeded my expectations last evening and again today/night! . . . He was simply amazing with the families, particularly at Shanksville and the Pentagon . . . And his speech tonight was pitch perfect!

Bottomline: We are blessed to have George W Bush as our president during this very challenging time in our nation's history!!

MUST VIEW . . .

A big thank you to those of you who pinged me to a thread featuring Matt Lauer's interview of the President . . . The President absolutely MANhandled Lauer; however, my favorite part of the interview involved the President's response to Lauer's question about how he (the President) handles the pressures of his office. Without skipping a beat, the President responded, "I believe in an Almighty God!" . . . I just LOVE our president!

MUST READS . . .

WHAT DO I TELL THE PILOT?”
A patriot’s story.

By Lucianne Goldberg,a syndicated talk-show host on Talk Radio Network & the publisher of the internet news forum Lucianne.com.
September 13, 2001 12:00 p.m.

We have never known anyone quite like her, this silky, brilliant, incandescently lovely, ferocious, charming woman. Barbara Olson, a heroine in life, a heroine in death, was murdered Tuesday morning in the blazing crash of a highjacked airliner exploding against the side of the Pentagon. The last words phoned to her beloved husband, Ted, were, "What do I tell the pilot to do?"

9/11: FIVE YEARS ON
GETTING IT RIGHT
By Ralph Peters

September 11, 2006 -- THE biggest story since 9/11 is that there hasn't been an other 9/11. According to our hysterical media culture, everything's always going wrong. The truth is that we've gotten the big things right.
On this fifth anniversary of the cold-blooded murder of thousands of Americans by Islamist fanatics, it's tempting to settle for grand rhetoric honoring our dead and damning our enemies. But the greatest tribute to those lost on that September morning is what we've since achieved.

In this vile political season, with those on the left suggesting that our president's a worse threat to civilization than Islamist terror, the rest of us should just review what's happened - and what hasn't:

THE FACTS ABOUT CLINTON AND TERRORISM
You don’t need a movie to see his failures.
By Byron York

Editor’s note: When it comes to Bill Clinton’s record on terrorism, there’s no need to invent fictional scenarios to show how ineffective he was; the truth is bad enough. A few months after 9/11, Byron York went through the record — including the former president’s habit of taking polls to see how he should respond to terrorist attacks — and came up with this report, from the December 17, 2001 issue of National Review:

HEROES
September 11th, 2006

A hero is someone who makes you proud to belong to the same species.

If a group of aliens from the Thothian galaxy were to come here, looking for a new planet to colonize after sterilizing it of all contaminating life forms, and ask you why they shouldn’t sterilize Earth, what defense would you give? It would be unwise to claim our value to the universe on the basis of our accomplishments in science or the arts. It would be foolish to point to our rock idols or movie stars. But you might well say, “Ours is the species that produced….”
