IF, and that's a big "if"; somewhere down the line a future President decides to bar Muslim men of age 17-35 from aircraft, that's the authority he/she would use. It's already been used, so there is precedent, and the Supreme Court has declared it constitutional.

I meant to mention that I have read [I am old but not that old] that the US feared a Japanese invasion of the west coast. If we fear an invasion again, I would think the miitary commanders would have the power again to remove whomever they wanted, civilians out of danger, potential enemy agents based on race, etc that they wanted.

I KNOW the wikipedia part about some Italian and Germans were detained on the east coast too. It was not general, but as the questioner said, even if it were one in Topeka, it is an extreme measure in the US.
