Barbara did call her husband.

She was supposed to leave on Sunday or Monday for a book tour but stayed another day because it was Ted's birthday.

YES.

Long call tio Ted; called collect via GTE Airfone. Had to work through several operators to do that so said Ted in an interview.

She also described the scene over the Beltway as they came in ...
