WASHINGTON Vice President Dick Cheney offered a veiled attack Sunday on critics of the administration's Iraq policy, saying the domestic debate over the war is emboldening adversaries who believe they can undermine the resolve of the American people.
"They can't beat us in a stand-up fight they never have but they're absolutely convinced they can break our will, that the American people don't have the stomach for the fight," Mr. Cheney said on NBC's Meet the Press.
The vice president said U.S. allies in Afghanistan and Iraq have doubts that America will finish the job there. "And those doubts are encouraged, obviously, when they see the kind of debate that we've had in the United States," he said. "Suggestions, for example, that we should withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq simply feed into that whole notion, validates the strategy of the terrorists."
Mr. Cheney unapologetically defended the 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.
"It was the right thing to do, and if we had it to do over again, we'd do exactly the same thing," he said.
He said that was the case even if the administration had known before the war what he acknowledged knowing now that Iraq did not have stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction.
Yet he also gave a bit of ground, as he was pressed repeatedly by interviewer Tim Russert about past statements that turned out to be wrong or damaging to his credibility.
The vice president acknowledged that he had been overly optimistic in predicting a quick demise to the Iraqi insurgency, which continues to bedevil U.S. forces. In May 2005, Mr. Cheney proclaimed the insurgency was in its "last throes," but since then more than 1,000 U.S. troops have died.....

He is correct. The media are aiding and abedding in that strategy.
Go, Big Time, go!
"He said that was the case even if the administration had known before the war what he acknowledged knowing now that Iraq did not have stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. "
What is this thing the RATS and the MSM have with stockpiles? Let's say there was 100 warehouses full of WMD. What would the RATS say? They would ask who was guarding them. When we said US troops they would say, how do we know we got there before some might have been removed?
This is a move the goalpost strategy which is really wearing thin.
For one, the entire Iraqi government was a terrorist group. For two, it was up to Saddam to proove he was in compliance with UN resolutions. It was not the US's job to proove that he had them. And three, after 9/11, the world had changed and Saddam's time had come. Sorry Dems.
TWhat's most agravating is that if Bush/Cheney did not go into Iraq (and Saddam was doing 'his thing' with his two wonderful children at his side), you just know the left would be screaming, "You call this a war on terror while the biggest terrorist of all sits in Bagdhad!"
Look lefties. Bush/Cheney took on the hard decision which is more than anyone can say about president Clinton. It's done....the decision has been taken......so, let's get on with it already!!!
In dealing with a large audience of varying knowledge and abililties, it is important to restate or even overstate the obvious.
IMHO, Bush and his people have shown too much Christian compassion towards their critics/enemies. Given the continued influence of the Propaganda Media, and the obvious willingness of the Left to lie, it is even more important to fight for the truth.
We can only hope that this offensive is not too late.
.. We are trying to break there will to attack again ...and they are trying to break our will to fight back... and they are being aided by the left in this country ...
The left in this country has alway run an internal corrosive propaganda campaign against U.S.....
The only counter is you must know who and what the U.S is about and tune out the talking heads of the so call "intellectual" left and there chattering class followers
Never swallow the poison the bodies of the "morally dead" left reflexivity vomits
Your statement .....Fully validated by the first segment of last nights ABC DocuDrama.....
"The vice president acknowledged that he had been overly optimistic in predicting a quick demise to the Iraqi insurgency, which continues to bedevil U.S. forces. In May 2005, Mr. Cheney proclaimed the insurgency was in its "last throes,"
Would the Vice President consider someone pointing this out to be "weakening the war effort?"
Why use weasel words to describe "SEDITION"?
We are "at war". Homegrown critics are aiding and abetting the enemy...a crime. They are the enemy as well, by their very actions.
What's it going to take for lefties to realize they are committing treason by openly criticizing our troops and our President?
If they continually focused on that statement.....I would say YES!
Quick spelling correction. Abedding should be abetting. Thanks!
Sorry, criticism and dissent are not treason. Leave censorship to the left.
It wasn't veiled, but it wasn't an "attack", it's just the truth.
see post #14
It is treason when the other side is merely critical simply because they want a different position. They are kind of like a child saying no. If tell a child the sky is blue they say no. Simply because they can or they want to be stubborn.
Now I'm not saying we should throw them all in jail in the true sense of treason. But we have to be honest about the severity of the damage they are doing to us by always saying no just because.
Every second that people have the luxury to sit and debate the war is evidence that the Bush Administration is succeeding in protecting us. There would be no such luxury with bombs in our streets and knives at our necks.
Sorry, adhering to the enemy is treason.
