Why phase back to 9/11 at the end of the first night if you plan on going back to Oct. 2000 tomorrow night? It doesn't make any sense.

Nope, it wasn't part of the previews of tomorrow night's segment. The movie ended with 9/11. It even showed the date flashed on the screen. Then they went to a commercial. After the commercial, they came back to tomorrow night's previews and none of them included the Cole.
