That is so cool.
Neat stuff!!
I think it was you who managed to talk me into downloading the NASA Worldwind program again and I couldn't be more greatfull. Worldwind itself isn't all that spectacular but the Sloane digital sky survey makes it all worthwhile.
Pick a random spot in the sky and start zooming and prepare to be amazed.
At the beginning of the movie 'It's a Wonderful Life' where Saint Peter is deciding to send someone (Clarence) to help George who is plotting to commit suicide I always thought the images they used for the angels looked strange but they kind of look like these spirals if I remember right. Just my first reaction - I love space images!
I have the great honor of working (in a small way) on the James Webb Space Telescope, scheduled to be launched in late 2012. When I asked one of the uber-scientitsts from Ball Aerospace what JWST would do that Hubble couldn't (in my vast ignorance) he said that pictures from the JWST would make Hubble pictures look like a child's chalk drawings.
When I look at pictures like these, I get goosebumps, they're so beautiful.
All right, who ate all the brownies?
There's a host against the sun!
Spiffy!
Looks like a few stars are in binary orbits with black holes, neutron stars or something with enough gravity to strip the photosphere off the star.
bump for later!
Are they being held by killer klowns?
interesting
What a beautiful picture!
