Not to mention the fact that the new Chevron find was described at needing the price of crude to remain above $65 to make it profitable. Let that well come on line before the price drops.

I'd settle for what it was when I bought my first gallon: somewhere around 85 cents.

I thought it was $50.

Like Rush says: what is good news for America is bad news for Democrats. And vice-versa.

Actually, I think the first Chevelles were made in 1964. I worked for a Chevrolet dealer from 1970 - 1973 and remember working on the older models. Those cars were so easy to work on, compared to the rolling computers we have today.

I'll suggest that it would be/will be a far greater problem for those playing the speculation market. Let's hope George Soros is getting burned.

Somewhere we misunderstood each other on this thread. Perhaps I was intending to address someone else, and mistakenly clicked on a post by you. Let's leave it at that.

I intended to point out that the primary cause of higher oil prices now than in the 90s is highly dependent on the relative strength of the world's economy (not the other way around - higher prices will tend to somewhat dampen the economy). The reason for the weak demand in the 90s was the economic troubles, especially in Japan and Asia with their concomitant low demand growth, and that led to the low prices at the time. Such a situation is not likely to be repeated any time soon.

It sounds like we're in complete agreement. Sorry about the way we got our horns locked.

"Actually, I think the first Chevelles were made in 1964."

The 64's came out in late 1963, just like the 2007s come out in late 2006 today. I was on the navy station waxing my Chevelle when the news of Kennedy's assassination came over the radio. November. 1963.

And you all know, if there was a democrat president, we republicans would STILL BE HAPPY that gas prices were dropping, because we don't hope for pain to gain political advantage.
