Haleigh Poutre Almost Victim of Euthanasia, Now Making Good Progress
Life News ^ | September 4, 2006 | Steven Ertelt

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.

Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.

She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."

"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.

Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.

"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.

"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.

DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.

Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.

"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.

Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.

Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.

DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.

Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.

Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.

>> They don't even understand how foolish they sound to normal human beings.

That's why I am at pains to point it out :-) In this case the lawyer sounds nasty as well as foolish, a dried-up shrew like Debbie Bushnell. Lawyers should have to pass a normality test along with the bar exam. It's no profession for sociopaths.

>> Both families went through years of agony before Nancy and Terry [sic] died.

Trust these hustlers NOT to mention that both Terri and Nancy Cruzan were killed by removal of their feeding tubes. In the latter's case, it was Cruzan's own parents who sued to kill her (and eventually won).

The Cruzan case was the real precursor of Terri's legal fight. Read all about it here: Supreme Court ruling in Missouri vs. Cruzan. Interestingly, the conservative majority in this ruling voted for life, the liberal dissenters argued for death. Note also that the Court found that the Cruzans had not presented "clear and convincing" evidence of Nancy's wish to forego medical care. The evidence was as flimsy as the vague hearsay offered by Mike, Scott and Joan Schiavo to kill Terri, but in the Cruzan case, the courts weren't buying it. In Terri's case, Greer fell all over himself saying how much he believed that garbage.

Not as bad as she is.

That's good. You got a picture of her with a hat. She is usually seen without a hat, at least that style.

It would take more than a bucket of water to melt the witch, too.

Meanwhile, time to go back to my regular tagline. It is kind of silly to keep pointing out that Billy Bub Clinton was lying (previous tag). The tricky part is finding some statement, any statement, when he isn't lying. I did catch him telling the truth once, about ten years ago, and nearly fell over. I'd have to go look up the exact quote but this is close: "I was hungry so I had something to eat."

I can't PROVE he was telling the truth even then, mind.

Wagging the bent finger, wagging the dog, the wag. It is disgusting to look at those fingers, anyway. And that is just a start.

This (from the story) is really interesting. It confirms what we strongly suspected, that Holli Strickland simply stole Haleigh from Allison Avrett (her half-sister) during a visit, by lodging phony "abuse" charges with the DSS. Seems pretty clear that Strickland loathed her sister and acted in hatred. She took Avrett's child away, burned Haleigh with cigarettes, beat her nearly to death with a baseball bat, and even cut the girl out of her will.

The DSS bears a large responsibility for this abuse. It failed Haleigh at every turn.

>> Wendy J. Murphy, co-lawyer for Avrett, also argued yesterday for the first time in open court that the state lacked jurisdiction over Haleigh when the state Department of Social Services took custody of her in 1998 and allowed her to remain in the home of her aunt, Holli A. Strickland, who adopted her in 2001.

>> The child and Avrett were living in Williamsburg, Va., when the child visited her aunt in Massachusetts, Murphy said. Holli Strickland reported to the state that Avrett's boyfriend in Virginia sexually abused Haleigh, but police in Virginia and Massachusetts investigated and determined the allegations were false, Murphy said.

>> The adoption of Haleigh should be "null and void" because Massachusetts had no jurisdiction over a child who was a resident of Virginia before she visited her aunt during 1998, Murphy said.

Well, thank you, Les! Glad you enjoy the Morning Show :-) Let us return the compliment for your fine efforts. And now, everybody join hands and sing Hymn 211, "Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead!"

It showed injuries as severe as a bad auto wreck -- except Terri wasn't in one.

Well, since the only other way I can see that Terri would have gotten such injuries would be if someone attacked her, and the only person who plausibly could have done that would never have done such a thing, the only thing I can figure is that a car somehow managed to make its way into Terri's hallway, strike her, and then leave. After all, as Sherlock Holmes said, once one has eliminated all other possibilities, whatever one remains--however improbable--must be the truth.

By jove, Watson, I believe you are onto something. But the hall is too narrow for a car. It must have been a motorcycle. I am surprised that Michael didn't hear it. Usually it is easy to hear motorcycles in the hall. Michael heard Terri's body go "THUD" when it was run over, but he never mentioned the bike.

Haleigh Poutre was on a news crawler today but they didn't mention her name. She's not really a secret or is she because she's a minor? That horse is already out of the barn re: her name. I'm glad that her mom is fighting for her.

So sad..... the RNC chose the Twin Cities for the 2008 convention instead of Tampa. There goes our huge Terri Legacy March for Justice. The going astray GOPers wearing funny hats can still be dogged up there in the name of disabled people who don't seem to have access to their constitutional rights.

RNC Convention will be in the Twin Cities in 2008 summer. Tampa lost. Florida deserves each and every loss of prestige and acknowledgement.

Tomorrow's St. Pete Times and Tampa Tribune will probably have explanations and/or excuses re: why Tampa lost the RNC Convention.

The winner is:

The GOP is trying to distance itself from the death cult? Terri was right. "Where there is life, there is hope."
