Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.
He conceded that see saw the balloon also. Being PVS, Terri was not supposed to see either. Yet Pat Anderson just let it go. I think there should have been a motion for renewed testing on that point alone. See what I mean?
>> A suicide note in the pocket of a man who jumped off the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel late Tuesday led police to the grisly scene of his girlfriends murder, where they found her charred head in a pot on the stove, her legs and feet baked in the oven and the rest of her dismembered body in trash bag in the refrigerator,
I ask you, how does that differ from the bioethics we look at every day?
Yes... but I'd give odds it wouldn't have done any good. Not with Greer there to deny the motion. Here, at least, Pat Anderson caught Ronnie off guard and made him fumble his explanation. His job -- always -- was to gloss over his test findings with fancy scientific talk to say that the patient flunked. He was a gab artist, like Clinton. He changed the standards of PVS every time but always got the test result he was paid to deliver.
But if you don't file it, you can't appeal it.
Good point. I didn't think of that.
24 does it on September 4th he had her follow the
25 lights, so it's obvious that she does have
737 1 some -- whether you want to call it tracking or
2 visual-orienting reflex it's obvious at some
3 point she follows for a few seconds a light or a
4 bright balloon.
To illustrate what Pat Anderson might of questioned from there for starters.
Q. So you do admit that Terri can see certain objects or lights?
A. No I didn't. She doesn't see the same as us. (Thats the way Cranford talks)
Q. But you just said it is obvious that she follows a light or a bright balloon. Correct?
A. Yes
Q. Was the teddy bear a bright object?
A. That's absurd. A teddy bear is just as bright as a balloon to me. (again, that is how Cranford talks)
Q. Are you aware that Dr. Hammesfhar identified Terri's range of vision at 18 inches?
A. I am ashamed to be a member of the medical community with people like him around. That was a total fraud.(again, that's the way Cranford testifies throughout.)
By Anderson
I move to strike that.
Court. Agreed. Confine yourself to methodology Dr. Cranford
Q.
She certainly is. She has encyclopedic knowledge of the case, she's articulate -- she could write THE book, if she wished. I hope she sees her way to do that. It must have been emotionally wrenching for her at the end, after she invested SO much of her time and her personal feelings in Terri's defense. I hope she's fine now and would consider a bit of sweet revenge :-) In any case, I wish her well.
As long as we're in a speculative mood... I wonder if Terri herself has been cross-examining Dr. Humane Death recently and 'splaining the error of his ways to him :-)
Great catch, BB :-) :-)

Your link didn't work.
It just worked for me.
Um, ok.
I just sent you a ping, in case it doesn't work for you again.
A very odd circumstance. I followed the whole discussion when Dr. CBB was looking into it. If the records are to be believed, Terri's first two CT scans following her injury were -- almost unbelievably -- normal. The brain damage isn't going to show up immediately, of course, but here the CT was still clean something like 48 hours later. Dr. CBB could not believe it and wondered if Terri's brain injury took place after she got to the hospital? The severe atrophy didn't show up until a third CT at the end of March, about a month later.
But the damage surely was done before she got to the hospital and there was no known incident that harmed her after she got there. Certainly nothing in the ER to cause "anoxic-ischemic encephalopathy"! Probably a paperwork botch. Change one digit and it ceases to be a mystery.
We are back to Michael being the only suspect.
