Haleigh Poutre Almost Victim of Euthanasia, Now Making Good Progress

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.

Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.

She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."

"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.

Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.

"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.

"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.

DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.

Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.

"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.

Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.

Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.

DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.

Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.

Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.

Tallahassee, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The Catholic Church has long opposed abortion and its Respect Life offices have had educating about abortion and urging women not to have one as their primary mission for years. But with the rise of bioethics issues such as human cloning, euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research, that pro-life mission has expanded.

Bioethics issues are particularly troublesome in Florida. Florida was the home to the fierce national debate over the life and death of Terri Schiavo and her husband ultimate won the right from a local Florida court to kill her via euthanasia by painfully starving and dehydrating her to death over a 13 day period.

Florida is also the home to numerous biotech firms as companies such as the California-based Scripps, Burnham and Torrey Pines institutes destroy the lives of days-old unborn children for their cells for questionable scientific research.

Mitt Romney???

..................................

We're all familiar with Bush's acts of fealty to the social-conservative base of his party—the nomination of pro-life judges, the Terri Schiavo intervention, the attempt to ban same-sex marriage, the veto of funding for stem-cell research. What is far less widely understood is what these numerous gestures of loyalty to causes near and dear to the Catholic Church tell us about how ecumenical the religious right has become.

But has the social-conservative movement become broad enough to accept a Mormon as its leader? That remains an open question. Latter-day Saints have toiled side by side with Catholics and evangelicals on various issues during the last two decades. But anti-Mormon prejudice remains widespread in both communities. Even Neuhaus, Mr. Ecumenical himself, has effectively excommunicated Mormons from the religious right by pronouncing that they are not Christians. And James Dobson of Focus on the Family no doubt spoke for many older evangelicals when he recently denied that "conservative Christians in large numbers will vote for a Mormon."

A Bigger Tent...Why religious conservatives are ready for a Mormon president.

Mantras worn thin...

If people develop a full-fledged eating disorder, anorexia or bulimia, they can suffer damage to their heart, liver or kidneys.

They can suffer chemical imbalances that lead to cardiac arrest, the reason suspected for the attack that led to Terri Schiavo's vegetative state.

Has chic become sickly?

The coroner ruled it out -- actually made fun of the theory in polite medical language -- but some people never catch on or catch up. I want to come back to this point because there IS a medical explanation for the kind of short-term, one-time chemical imbalance that Terri suffered. It is caused by trauma.

Observation and rare admission that mainstream opinion was on the side of Terri.

And as the midterm election draws near, any clear-eyed assessment of the Democratic Party would have to conclude: the Democrats have no beitzim.

Plenty of them are gloating that the congressional page sex scandal will clinch a victory for them in November. But I doubt it. It wouldn't shock me if, New York Yankees-like, the team that looks unbeatable in the playoffs gets sent packing.

This is the party that couldn't unseat a president who chose to launch a disastrous war, and who waded against mainstream opinion on everything from stem cell research to energy policy to the environment to Terri Schiavo. At every turn, Democratic candidates have failed to offer an alternative voice that makes Americans feel not just sane, but safe.

Democrats have no beitzim

Ping to wagglebee thread on Morning After...

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-abortion law firm has filed a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration over its recent decision to allow over the counter sales of the morning after pill. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed a legal complaint in an attempt to force the agency to extend the sales to teenagers under the age of 18.

When the FDA entered into an agreement with Barr Laboratories, the maker of the Plan B drug, it prohibited anyone under 18 from purchasing the morning after pill without a prescription.

The sentence is ambiguous, but I think the fellow is saying that it was President Bush who has gone against the mainstream on Terri and on the other matters. He is dreaming. The liberal view is miles out of touch with mainstream opinion -- including Terri.

Morning after pills for teens? This time I guess it's parents who have no beitzim. We are not supposed to be raising little bunnie-wunnies. We are supposed to be guiding our children toward responsible adulthood.

The only consolation here is that it's one more device for insuring GOP domination in future elections. Republicans are the ones getting married and having children. Democrats will take these pills and slowly go the way of the dinosaurs.

News from Pornellas:

1. Charlie Justice (D) mentions TERRI SCHIAVO in his latest campaign ad. Apparently, this democrat is bragging that he voted to kill her. 2. Charlie Crist (lots of charlie news today). Charlie Crist in today's St. Pete Times stated that he is NOT GOING TO KEEP JEB BUSH'S people and will have his own (they will be liberals imo and union people), that he's anti-business and he turned down a debate with JIM DAVIS (d) moderated by Hardball's Chris Mitchell.

3. Crist is a radical liberal. Anybody who votes for cc is stupid and that means anyone. They've all been had. And, Crist is still bragging about never owning real property. I wouldn't be bragging about that. He's stupid, stupid, stupid and floridians who are for him have been had.

In four years when the state is in shambles, somebody else will replace him should he win.

Crist is no conservative! He's a total fraud!

Jim Davis is right when he says that Crist was a lousy AG. He'd make a lousy governor too. I know the hard core GOPers will vote for crist. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I'm an indy and look forward to many "I told you so" moments should cc win. He's a total fraud and he's defrauding republicans and conservatives in every way!

Tom Gallagher for Guv was against murder. I guess if you are for murder these days, you are a moderate. If you are against murder, you are far right.

Florida is stuck on stupid.

In S.D., watch for voter fraud on the reservations. The planned parenthood peeps will pay the Native Americans to vote pro-abort.

I wonder if they are going to monitor the vote or just let people cheat.

...and the phone company's his long time friends so it will be a phony fight, like wrestling. The taxpayers will lose and watch the phone companies get richer as will the state's lawyers and the phone companies' lawyers. It's a program to make work for Charlie's lawyer buddies. That's all.

Charlie Crist gay rumors resurface via his long time friend Max Linn.

You may as well get ready for the next shoe(s)? to drop. Did you think Foley was the only Republican they're targeting?

On 10/03/06, this is the email I sent to Rush's 24/7 private email address:

Charley Crist is next on their agenda.

Tip of the iceberg site:

http://smashedfrog.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_smashedfrog_archive.html

Is Charlie Crist gay?

No, of course not. He’s a Republican candidate for governor. In Florida.

Republicans don’t elect Marys in this state. They won’t even elect those suspected of Maryhood; go ask U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, whose 2004 United States Senate campaign was derailed by a report that he was a flamer.

Sure, Charlie’s a hot 50-year-old bachelor with well-coifed silver hair and a fondness for n! icely tailored suits. But he just survived a primary against a fundie who premised his whole campaign on the notion that Charlie doesn’t hate gay people (or abortion) enough. You’d think if Tom Gallagher had something to say, he would have said it. Instead, a week before the primary Crist denied that he had fathered a love child.

Now, these rumors have been floating around for a while. We at Happytown™ have heard them for years, always off the record, always passed along as gossip. We’d guess that every reporter in the state has heard them, but as yet no one’s produced any proof, much less a picture of Crist having a Brokeback encounter with the pool boy.

Enter Max Linn, gubernatorial candidate for what’s left of the Reform Party. While on anchorman-turned-right-wing-nutball Bud Hedinger’s radio show (3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on WFLA-AM 540) last week, Linn told the flabbergasted host that he knew, and would swear on a stack of Bibles, that Crist was gay. The two ha! ve been friends for 25 years, Linn said, and Charlie had confided in him. Of course it goes without saying that Linn could have ulterior motives for this revelation, given the timing and all. But honestly, the best he could possibly hope for by dumping on his “friend” is to become a spoiler and clear the road to victory for Democrat Jim Davis. posted as announcement by Matchett PI.

FV SAYS: Crist likes basketball players (not saying what sex).
