"Last Days on Earth" goes beyond science fiction to science fact, as it takes viewers on a roller-coaster ride through black holes, intelligent robots, asteroid strikes and super-plagues. Viewers will journey from the outer reaches of the universe to the inner world of DNA, with a round-the-globe tour in between. The goal of the broadcast is to enlighten viewers with knowledge that could help diminish the likelihood of some of these doomsday scenarios.

analogy with the 17th century Church inquisitors

Great analogy! I felt that way watching this. They were essentially saying that if you questioned their "truth" in any way you are not ignorant - you are willingly evil. What an interesting argument technique!

The doctors seem to place quite a lot of weight on consensus. I remember a TV ad where 9 out of 10 doctors recommended "Kent Cigarettes with the Micronite (asbestos) Filter". We now know that any smoking might be dangerous and that filter was icing on the cake.

I only watched Gore saying there no longer is a debate on global warming. I was channel surfing so I was wondering, did they ever mention the sun and it's current activity? I'm pretty sure it would effect the environment..........

First they scare us to death, then they bring on Al Gore and global warming. I had to get away from that turkey after the meteorite scenario.

Naw, the Wife wouldn't give up the TV last night. Was it worth it? Anything new? Is it all Bush's fault?

ARGUMENTUM AD HOMINEM

Description: An argument that attempts to disprove the truth of what is asserted by attacking the speaker rather than the speaker's argument. Another way of putting it: Fallacy where you attack someone's character instead of dealing with salient issues. There are two basic types of ad hominem arguments: (1) abusive, and (2) circumstantial.

Yep. And they showed the global warming critics by filming a television screen that was jittery and out of focus rather than live bodies. Blatant propaganda.
