Behind the plan to bomb Iran
Asia Times Online ^ | 30.08.06 | Ismael Hossein-zadeh an economics professor at Drake University

There is an unspoken, de facto alliance between these two extremely powerful interests - an alliance that might be called the military-industrial-Zionist alliance. More than anything else, the alliance is based on a conjunctural convergence of interests on war and international convulsion in the Middle East. Let me elaborate on this point.

Arms industries and powerful beneficiaries of war dividends need an atmosphere of war and international convulsion to maintain continued increases in the Pentagon budget and justify their lion's share of the public money.

In the debate over allocation of public resources between the proverbial guns and butter, or between military and non-military public spending, powerful beneficiaries of war dividends have proved very resourceful in outmaneuvering proponents of limits on military spending.

Justification of increased military spending in the post-Cold War period has prompted these beneficiaries to be even more creative in manufacturing "new sources of danger to US interests" to justify unilateral wars of aggression. It is not surprising, then, that a wide range of "new sources of threat to US national interests" has emerged in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union: "rogue states", "axis of evil", global terrorism, Islamic radicalism, "enemies of democracy", and more.

Just as the powerful beneficiaries of war dividends view international peace and stability as inimical to their business interests, so too the hardline Zionist proponents of "Greater Israel" perceive peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors perilous to their goal of gaining control over the "Promised Land" of Israel.

But because proponents of "Greater Israel" are unwilling to withdraw from these territories, they are fearful of peace and genuine dialogue with Palestinians - hence their continued disregard of UN resolutions and their systematic efforts at sabotaging peace negotiations.

And I have naively thought that every chutzpah has its limits..... I wonder, whether this guy wrote the article by himsself or simply copied an old piece on III Reich and sexed it up by adding Middle East and Zionism from time to time. The dangerous part is that for many people abroad he might seem a reliable source of information. He has high position at an American university after all, he presumably lives there, so the obvious conclusion is that he knows what he is writing about.

"The Persian Gulf War in the Context of the Debate over the Political Economy of U.S. Militarism" was a paper he wrote about the first Persian Gulf War. He's got a bit of a shiner for the concept of a military complex ruling political decisions for economic gain, but the economics of the premise falls flat - at the time of the Persian Gulf War, it was the largest deployment of US forces since the Vietnam war, and Vietnam didn't bring a shining economic impact. I actually can't think of a single conflict that the United States was in that brought about short term economic gains, and long term gains can be attributed to everything except military conflict.

I wonder though - how many papers could a University professor write before being fired if the topic was instead on white supremacy?

Geezzz. Recycled trash from decades ago. Is the muhamedian mudslinger paid by the word? "Fat cats in the defense industry drive US warmongering, with a sprinkling of Zionist influence when appropriate" is the sum of the best this perp sand-nazi can do? Real clever.

I live a few miles from Drake, and clearly it is much to close.

Ah, yes, the old guns versus butter dilemma. If the government wasn't buying so many guns, it could buy more butter, which is alreay overproduced, to do what with I don't know.

That's what our educational system is all about. The professor did forget to cover how Osama bin Laden is paid for his work by Exxon-Mobil.

Probably should be: military-industrial-discount retailer-vast right wing conspirators-Zionist alliance.

That would include most of the elements the leftist wackos oppose.

Bet he thinks doctors are in cahoots with auto manufacturers to deliberately create more vehicular accidents, and thus, more medical bills to line the pockets of their surgical scrubs.

Ah, Drake University.

Professor of Economics.

Filling young skulls full of mush with so much socialist/anti-American,anti-Jewish,pro Islamofacist, drivel.

And this is no doubt the tip of the iceberg in so many of our institutions of "hire" (meaning most Colleges/Universities will hire anyone, as long as they are left-of-center) learning.

What spulge! When have the Palis ever shown any interest in a genuine peace? One only need look at the textbooks in their schools. Amazing how these people never mention the suicide bombers or (futile) Israeli good will gestures in their rants--facts are such inconvenient things.
