It's good news for consumers and the economy. Continued lower prices "may act like a tax cut" and stimulate spending,

So spending is only spending if it isn't spending on gasoline eh ?

Sure it helps other economic sectors but it will hurt the oil/energy sector. The only thing that hurts spending is earning less or saving more. And saving more generally improves capital for investment.

The Beemer is supposed to be good for (up to) 50 mpg. It does have 100 hp, after all. :)

I used to have an 80-inch Harley that would sometimes get 65 mpg. 55 mpg was typical highway mileage for that machine.

I can just hear the Democratic strategists screaming, NOT NOW! Wait until after the elections!

You would think that the oil industry that the have helped so much through environmental legislation that has limited competition and helped provide recently with profit margins that have not been seen in their industry in many decades (though are not uncommon in other industries).

I guess the oil industry didn't appreciate all those calls for windfall profits taxes on top of all the other taxes on the energy industry that make it one of if not the most heavily taxed and regulated industry.

I honestly think something as simple as gas prices under $2.50 a gallon could make a significant difference in a number of political races.

The Democrats have no real plans of their own and are running on a platform of complaining about have the Republicans have done everything wrong.

Fuel prices can have a broad effect and sometimes all it takes is a little good news to expose useless complainers for what they are.

Even though few people are overjoyed with what our government has been doing overall, all the Republicans really have to do is appeal more to voters than a bunch of useless whiners that have no plans of their own that they are willing to present and defend.

I was getting to like the $3.50 gas even though my gas bill was over $100/week.

The welfare cases were getting parked and it was starting to make a dent in the traffic load.

$2.58 here in Oxford, MS. This is an area where it was $4.50+ per gallon/nonexistant a week post-katrina.(just as a sidenote)

well some states are paying in the 2.30's and 2.40's NOW
and in your state the prices are in the 2.50-2.60's

heck, at only a 4-5 cents decline a week you and others would be at two bucks by Thanksgiving easily.

It didn't take $3.50 gas for that to happen. Just before the attacks on 9/11, the average price in the U.S. was $1.58.

usually the prices don't start falling until after Labor Day weekend...certainly not two weeks before?
