I shared some of our recent Doser recipes with a friend and she sent me this. She has health problems that sometimes require some creativity and substitutions to get the end product so that's why there are references to making it easier. She calls them
"Recipes for the Indisposed"
EZ Pot Roast
Chuck roast
seasoned with salt pepper, lots of garlic salt or bits
1 pkg Lipton onion soup mix
water to cover
Cook in slow cooker, use roaster all day on low
Add carrots, spuds, mushrooms, fresh onions at last bit if you have energy enough
* * * * *
OR
On horrible [low energy] days
add canned mixed veggies
When you take the top off the moisture evaps and leaves a yummy beefy onion gravy stock
OR
on day two shred beef and cut up any leftovers
To the stock, add:
2 cans mixed veggies
1 can corn
2 cans stewed tomatoes
2 cans tomato sauce
Szechuan sauce or curry and / or Worcestershire sauce
2 bay leaves
We really LOVE this stew/soup it freezes well too.
Yum! I'm with your friend on using Lipton's Onion Soup mix. I just got some beef today to make stew tomorrow and I always put that soup mix in for extra rich flavor. But I do it in a large pot so that there's plenty of room for dumplings on top.

Sounds like my type of recipes I do similar things to the above especially if pushed for time.
My local store also does a good packet mix for Chicken Chauseur. (sp)
