Hezbollah charade -- UN officiates at colonization of south Lebanon by Iran

Two years ago, the United Nations Security Council passed resolution 1559, ordering the terrorist group Hezbollah out of Lebanon.

Of course, they didn't mean it.

This summer, when Israel started to kick Hezbollah out of Lebanon by force, the UN intervened to stop them.

The UN hadn't done anything about Hezbollah rockets attacking Israeli towns, or Hezbollah terrorists kidnapping Israeli soldiers. They hadn't done anything about Iran and Syria supplying and training Hezbollah.

But they moved quickly to stop Israel from defending itself and extirpating the thugs.

For some reason, Israel agreed to the UN-brokered ceasefire. Perhaps it should not be called the UN anymore, because an extra-legal, extra-territorial gang such as Hezbollah is now a full player at the UN, worthy of negotiating ceasefires. (Terrorist group Hamas also has official observer status -- something the 23-million citizens of democratic Taiwan lack.)

Perhaps the reason Israel agreed to the ceasefire was Israel's naive government thought the UN would remove Hezbollah from Lebanon peacefully.

But ever since Israel ceased its combat actions, Hezbollah gunmen have been streaming back into the south of Lebanon, and three cargo planes a day of weapons and equipment fly from Iran to Syria, where they are then shipped by truck convoy to rebuild and reinforce Hezbollah positions near the Israeli border.

All of this, by the way, is going on under the approving eye of the current UN force in Lebanon, called UNIFIL, a force that has been there since 1978 but hasn't disarmed a single terrorist in that time.

Is there any hope this new ceasefire force, dubbed UNIFIL-2 by the UN, will be more effective? The French foreign minister gave an optimistic word. "Our objective is clear, to disarm Hezbollah," said Phillipe Douste-Blazy. But the very same day, the UN's Kofi Annan said the opposite.

"The troops are not going there to disarm Hezbollah, let's be clear on that." Given the UN's record, it's best to believe Annan. Who really expects the UN contingent to uproot and disarm Hezbollah?

Hezbollah has shown it won't be disarmed without a fight. Is France really going to expend blood and treasure to do what they stopped Israel from doing? Would France dare to enrage its already riotous domestic Muslim population?

It is proposed UNIFIL-2 would comprise some 15,000 troops, an enormous number.

Muslim nations -- including countries such as Indonesia who refuse to recognize Israel as a legitimate state -- have been uncharacteristically quick to volunteer the bulk of that.

It doesn't take a keen eye to see what's going on here: The UN has already legitimized Hezbollah by negotiating with them and arranging a ceasefire to save them from Israel. Now the UN is permitting Hezbollah to retrench in south Lebanon. No-one less than the secretary general of the UN has promised Hezbollah will not be troubled by UN troops.

The UN troops are not there to stop Hezbollah. They're there to stop Israel from rooting Hezbollah out.

What will the UN do next time Hezbollah fires rockets into Israel? Nothing, according to UN terms of engagement. This is not the reinvigoration of Lebanon, reassertion of Lebanese control over the south, fulfilment of Resolution 1559. It's the UN officiating at the colonization of south Lebanon as part of the Iranian empire.

Already, massive pictures of Iranian politicians and clerics line the roads in south Lebanon. Welcome to Hezbollahland, the war colony of the Iranian empire.

Brought to you by Kofi Annan.

Posters of Khamenei and Khomeini lined the roads in S. Lebanon before the Israelis struck back. Nothing new, except maybe they've posted a few more.

And the French were so intimidated by the prospect of facing a ticked-off IDF that they were originally only send 200 people until Italy shamed them into ponying up.

I had it with the so much gloom and doom coming about the Israel war against Hizballah. The terror group is much weaker now than before the war started, and the presence of 15000 Lebanese Army soldiers and 15000 Internationals troops will greatly limit their Hizballah ability to military rebuild itself in the South, no matter what the mandate of these forces are. Unfortunately it is not the liberal media that fell for Hizballah fake victory and propaganda but also most of the knee jerk reactionaries on the conservative side.

Quit blaming the UN

Bush is at fault

He keeps going back to it and just props it up instead of ignoring it and letting it die
