Eight years ago, on March 2 1998, 10-year-old Natascha Kampusch kissed goodbye to her mother Brigitte and set off from her home in Vienna to school. She never made it. Her disappearance sparked one of the biggest ever hunts in Austria. But despite teams of detectives following thousands of leads there was no trace of Natascha - a shy, attractive schoolgirl with light brown hair, who left home without her Gameboy and beloved cuddly mouse.
Until, that was, Wednesday lunchtime, when an elderly neighbour phoned police to say she had found a pale young woman in distress. The woman had a scarcely believable story - that she had just escaped from a man who had held her prisoner in his garage for more than eight years.

This is just so sickening. To think a beautiful child was sentenced, by a pervert, to eight years underground in a space befitting a convicted murderer. She missed so much, in such crucial developmental years, my heart aches for her.
It pains me to think what this demon put her through in that time. Words fail me.
I pray, through God's mercy, that her life, and her mother and father's lives can be made whole again.
According to the full story, he's already jumped in front of a train (the train won).
The perpetrator has already eliminated himself.
Well, at least justice was served.
Just think of what might have become of Elizabeth Smart if she hadn't been found. 9 months or eight years either way it's a tragedy.
Good to hear, becasue most nations, including the USA, fali the civilized test.
may this monster rot in hell
I think the poster only was wondering if the young woman really was the missing girl.
At least that's how I read her post.
Why would she lie?
agreed. this would make no sense . btw i don´t think this guy jumped across a train hours later for nothing.
I think the story just seemed so incredible at first.
I can't remember another instance when someone actually escaped from a monster such as this. She's lucky he didn't kill her early on in her ordeal.
Actually, the poster simply failed to scroll down and read the rest of the story, which discussed her reunion with her family.
bump
Nicely put, but I want that cockroach dead!
yes indead when i first watched it on the news it was so incredible to believe. i´m from austria but to be honest NO one here (except her parrents) had thought that she could be still alive.
WAFFEN SS
Or
Die Polizei hat staed, daß der Verbrecher vor dem Zug ohne assitance whatsoever sich warf, die gesagte Polizei
One can hope.
Does Elizabeth Smart ring a bell. No, she didn't escape, but it is a similar incident.
He's dead, Jim...
he threw himself under a train; I'm sure he will find justice from God, however.
i recall that. unbelievable story.
Austria's own Elizabeth Smart. Thank God she's alive and will hopefully recover both physically and mentally.
