President Bush Files for Divorce with Catholic Base
Catholic Pro-Life Leader states: President Bushs implied support for the abortion-causing drug Plan B is completely inconsistent with his recent veto of the embryonic stem cell research funding bill
FRONT ROYAL, Va., Aug. 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, issued the following response to President George W. Bushs statements today regarding his support for Andrew von Eschenbach and his recent decision to seek over-the-counter (OTC) status for the abortifacient drug Plan B. When asked by reporter Bill Sammon about the situation, Bush stated: I believe that Plan B ought to be -- ought to require a prescription for minors, is what I believe. And I support Andy's decision.
President Bushs implied support for the abortion-causing drug Plan B is completely inconsistent with his recent veto of the embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) funding bill. What the president apparently fails to realize is that Plan B kills the same innocent unborn children that the ESCR process does.
The president must demonstrate a consistent respect for the sanctity of all human life or he risks provoking a great divorce with the conservative Catholics that compromise a large part of his support base. Human beings in the embryonic stage of development deserve equal protection under the law and the presidents position falls far short of that mark.
I reiterate my call for President Bush to withdraw his nomination of Andrew von Eschenbach for FDA commissioner and I implore him to rethink his own reckless approach to the powerful abortion-causing Plan B drug regimen.
I will withhold my thoughts for now....more info.
Too many people want their religion running the government, that government then running the lives of Americans.
Well I have no idea what you mean by that. I was hoping you might quote some polling figures to support your argument.
The fact is that real Catholics who care about things like abortifacents are squarely in Bush's corner, but real Catholics are seldom polled. The ones who have parted ways with Bush are the liberal Catholics who go to Mass twice a year, or not at all.
Don't think I quite understand this article. Are the writers expressing support for the Democrat position on this matter? If not, whose position is closer to theirs -- the President's or the Democrat's?
Nixon was the same way. He wasn't very conservative with the Wage & Price Controls, the Trip To China, and Vietnamization. But he was a staunch anti-communist and they hated his guts for that.
I really don't agree with SINGLE ISSUE VOTERS on either side of this debate.
One is PRE-Conception and the other is POST-Conception???
Also, for the first time since 1928, more Catholics voted Republicans than Democrats in the 2004 presidential election. When they did exit polling during that election, the biggest issue for voters were social issues. It was the "gay marriage" amendments during that election that passed overwhelmingly as well.
The IUD prevents the implantation of the fertilized ovum. That is post-conception. There are types of the BCP that do the same thing. My question is - why have they chosen this type of abortion to take a stand on and not the others?
Have you been hiding in a cave or do you just like spreading bigoted disinformation? Catholics voted 52-47 for Bush over Kerry and mass attending Catholics voted 56-43 against Kerry nationwide. If a majority of Ohio Catholic voters hadn't broke against the nominally Catholic candidate, John Kerry would have won the election.
What a snappy little headline. Mark for later.
Not to worry, I'm sure we have grounds for an annulment. ;-D
Which judge was that?
Don't forget his family and many of the blue bloods are big in Malthusian Population Control, his father wrote the Title X bill in 1969. Once many of the Catholic Mexicans come here and assimilate into our culture, they too, will be encouraged to "prevent" and "control" births. Do you really think that it's about picking crops and votes the republicans will never get?
And is there a statistic that shows how many Catholic women use contraceptives against the teaching of the Church?
I would guess you all would just be amazed.
