It's not unusual at all to get a bronze star one year after service. I think you're in "wrong tree" territory here. And I'm glad to see that, so far, no one else is attacking his service record because they don't agree with his politics.

Yeah for scratches and bruised ankles. His description of "field duty" was based on eluding enemy mines. Sounds like a trip to Saigon from MACV.

Am I reading this right? He got the V because he COULD have been shot at?

As I've said before, I and other Veterans are watching closely and so far what I see is a Republican Party that will turn on us in a heartbeat and chew us to pieces if it suits their agenda. Do us all a favor and drop it already.

Wow! O-6 doesn't amount to jack if you can "become" one in just 48 hours.

I could have saved a bunch of years if appearing to be a captain was all that counted.

If he got two purple hearts I want to see the band - aids.

Remember this Ira Hayes was a great soldier and a stinking drunk. Murtha could have been a great soldier and now is a POS.

"Personally" as "a Major" he traveled extensively into enemy territory? A "regimental officer"? Seems fishy to me. G/2 in a Regt. is usually a LTC and they are usually right there at HQ analyzing.

... he has earned the right to say what he wants.

You seem to be a fellow who doesn't pay real close attention to what's going on. Murtha said that Marines were guilty of cold-blooded murder. No prior service gives him the right to slander our brave troops.

Famous veterans of our time who prove the folly of placing political value on one's military experience. The fellow on the left is, like Congressman Murtha, a veteran of the USMC. The little turd on the right is a Bronze Star recipient for action in the first Gulf War. The bottom line is; Thanks for the service Murtha, but what have you done for me lately? You imbecile.

REMF bump

nah..... ya think???

i've met some intel guys coming in as I was going out.... but usually at night and nobody knew about it....and everybody probably was dodging snipers and mines in Vietnam....

Heck even John F'ing Kerry did that.

Oh you didn't know?.... Yeah, John Kerry was in Vietnam.......... and Cambodia.... for Christmas.

Pssst! Hey Murtha! Admiral Bourda committed suicide when he was found out. Think about it...

That's the way I read it. War is hell for a regimental S-2 dodging potential landmines and potential bullets. Oh, the HUMANITY!

I've waited for 6 months and counting for my recent MSM. It's not that unusual.

Randy "Duke" Cunningham had an impressive background too. That was then; this is now. There is no valor in what Murtha has done as a Congressman.

I grew up in a Marine town, so I love and honor the military, but I'm also not under many illusions about Marines' behavior off the clock, so to speak, and I know that honorable service in the military doesn't exempt one from being, or becoming, a POS. I'm just saying that being a POS doesn't mean one didn't give honorable service. That's all.

I've never known anyone to get a "V" device for valor, while not having been under direct fire from contact with the enemy. Some soldiers, who see much combat don't get it. And, generally speaking, Officers, above the rank of Captain aren't frequently found out in the field. That's not their job! I think it's bogus! He would have gotten that while in country unless it was posthumously awarded.

According to this Murtha was in the Korean war and received what had to have been a battlefield promotion.

Figure it out he enlisted "during the Korean conflict where he was subsequently commissioned a second Lieutenant" and "after already seeing combat service in the Korean Conflict" and no mention of him ever being a Drill Instructor during Korea either.

I know I'm not supposed to point out the flaws in his ever changing records since it would be "wrong" to attack the past that he has so carefully crafted for himself but yet this is yet another instance where he has fashioned his record to reflect something he later corrected.

And I am sure you were given a big Ceremony that landed on the second page of the local newspaper a few weeks before an election you were running in too right??

Not that you didn't deserve a big ceremony and recognition because you do and I thank you for your service.
