US Muslims bristle at Bush term "Islamic fascists" Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:07 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Muslim groups criticized President George W. Bush on Thursday for calling a foiled plot to blow up airplanes part of a "war with Islamic fascists," saying the term could inflame anti-Muslim tensions.
U.S. officials have said the plot, thwarted by Britain, to blow up several aircraft over the Atlantic bore many of the hallmarks of al Qaeda.
"We believe this is an ill-advised term and we believe that it is counter-productive to associate Islam or Muslims with fascism," said Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group.
"We ought to take advantage of these incidents to make sure that we do not start a religious war against Islam and Muslims," he told a news conference in Washington.
"We urge him (Bush) and we urge other public officials to restrain themselves."
Awad said U.S. officials should take the lead from their British counterparts who had steered clear of using what he considered inflammatory terms when they announced the arrest of more than 20 suspects in the reported plot.
Hours after the news broke, Bush said it was "a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation."

I cheered when I heard W use this phrase. It's exactly right on target. If you aren't a facsist or a facsist supporter, then you've got nothing to worry about.

It is good to see that at least more people are beginning to see that there are NO MODERATE MUSLIMES. You have listed two good first steps in saving civilization. Five years and muslimes still think that anyone with eyes to see even cares about their feelings.

After hearing the president speak today I made a point of e-mailing the White House to let them know how pleased I was to hear President Bush use the correct term to describe just whom we are at war with.

I smiled when the president FINALLY used a correct term to describe who we are fighting against. He needs to do more of it. "Terror," "terrorism," "terrorist" and the like do nothing to define the conflict.

Hey, Awad, why don't you ask your fellow Muslims to restrain themselves -from repetitive acts of barbarism?

Once again CAIR shows its true colors. No wonder so many non-Muslim Americans don't trust you folks. Wake up and smell the coffee. Many of "us" believe that "you" can't and won't admit that it is the goal of most Muslims in the Mid East especially that want to see all Jews and Christians dead. Why is it that, I wonder?
You do little to improve American-Islamic relations. Nay to the contrary statements as above only seem to alienate you even more from main-stream Americans (non-Muslim). Saying nothing is better than criticizing a position that many of us fervently believe. That being there is little difference in the Muslims in the Mid-East especially and the fascists and National Socialists (Nazi's) of the not so distant past.

Imagine how every morning, American Boy Scouts raised the Flag as the families that remained interned saluted it, while their husbands, sons, and brothers fought fiercely for the country that placed them there.
Now compare the words of CAIR with the actions of real patriots.
