If you're flying soon, the rules concerning what you may and may not carry onto the plane with you just changed in response to the arrest in the United Kingdom of people accused of plotting to destroy aircraft bound from England to the United States by exploding liquids in their carry-on bags. Find out the details of this thwarted terrorist plot.
Effective Thursday, Aug. 10, travelers are no longer allowed to bring the following items on board the airliner: --All liquids of any kind, including drinks --Gels --Lotions and creams, including hand lotion and sunscreen --Contacts may be brought on board in their cases, but the cases cannot contain liquid. --Hairspray --Toothpaste --Shampoo and conditioner --Liquid makeup --Perfume --Anything else that has a liquid or gel-like consistency.
Higher security means long lines and chaos in airports nationwide.
If you bring any of these items through airport security, TSA agents will confiscate them from your carry-on luggage; however, you may still place them in checked luggage. Some exceptions are granted for passengers traveling with an infant or small child. Baby formula, juice, bottled breast milk and baby food are allowed, but they will be tested by the TSA to ensure they are not explosives. Prescription drugs, insulin and some nonprescription medication are also allowed with proper identification. The new procedures cover all flights, both international and domestic. Currently, laptop computers, cell phones and other electronic devices are allowed, but that is subject to change.

Maybe taking away electronic toys and drinks will wakeup & outrage the American public enough to call for profiling of Arab/Islamic fliers (Doubt it).
What is the current status re: laptops and electronics on U.S. flights? I just heard conflicting information. TSA web site just mentions the liquids now.

Good Lord! My eyes are going to hurt when I can't take out my lenses after having them in for 12-18 hours all because I can't take my Boston Cleaner Conditioning Lotion onboard. Ouch! I'm going to lose one of them for sure. This ticks me off.
This just confirms my current travel plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was planning to drive then and I'm still planning to drive.
Men and, especially, women, have bodily cavities where objects of a substantial size can be secreted. To remove those objects and assemble a bomb from them would be quite simple.

As a businessman who just changed a 5PM flight today to a 6AM flight tomorrow because of the security fubar, I agree totally with you.

Agreed. Basically the terrorists have won. Not what they really wanted (killing all of us) but by creating terror which leads to infringement on our liberties.
In typical government bureaucrat fashion, TSA has overreacted by banning all liquids. From what I've read, the terrorists planned to ignite a peroxide solution with a camera flash or other electronics. Of course, it would be very easy to screen for peroxide - simply use a sniff test and/or make people drink from their carry-on bottles. Wouldn't it be fun to see Mohammed gurgling with peroxide?
Instead the TSA bans all liquids - rather absurd and something that can't possibly last past the next Congressional recess.
I am all for taking precautions but there is always a tradeoff. Reducing the speed limit to 55 mph saved lives, and no doubt 45mph would save even more. But at some point you need to draw the line.
The rules of the Israeli Airline are sufficient.
I live in Hawaii and have to fly to see my dealers on the neighbor islands weekly. I also have to fly to the mainland several times a year(Last month to Elyria, OH and San Diego, next month to Spearfish, SD and Anaheim, CA, October to San Antonio, January to Dallas etc.) There is simply no other option but to fly.
My boss won't let me sail my boat on business trips. He says it takes too long d;^)
THEY need to furnish more liquids.
I routinely do that on the return leg of my business trips because I usually collect a lot of printed material that is too heavy to lug around the airport. Guess I'll start shipping some stuff ahead too.
