Maybe he's setting himself up for a McCain/Lieberman 3rd party ticket.

BTW, was the "Dean" running the Dem machine against Lieberman and for Lamont in Connecticut by any chance Howard Dean's brother???

Yes. Saw him on "Meet the Depressed" on Sunday. Sounds just like Howie.

The notion that Lieberman is doing the right thing is rediculous. He's doing the self centered selfish thing. As to his support of the war, so what. We do not know what his motivation is. Perhaps he supports Isreal ahead of America and this is the only reason he is supporting the war. Can you say with certainty that this is not the case?

He is a politcal whore, you can pretend that is not the case but twice he has been given the opportunity to act with dignity and respect for the voters, first with all of America voting and now Connecticut. Twice he has put himself above VOTING RESULTS. In otherwords, he believes he's better than the voters of the party he continues to choose to caucus with. Screw him. The rat party is the party of the crazys and the lunatics. He chose to stay with the rat party while others were leaving during Clinton because he shares their socialist policies.

He remained in the party of traitors the entire time. Even while it was obvious that his party hates America and is doing everything in it's power to bring down this president and implement socialism. Now he's loses power and decides that he cannot accept the will of the VOTERS HE HAS CHOOSEN TO BE REPRESENTED by? Please. Principle, my arse.

Now is the time to rally around even a flawed Republican candidate so that we can increase our Senate lead. Joe is power mad like every other rat politician.

I agree. This is Sore Loserman redux. But this time his self-centered preening can help our side. Lemonade out of lemons, and all that.

"As to his support of the war, so what. We do not know what his motivation is."

Recall that the argument, during the immigration debate, was that REGARDLESS of how bad a Republican is on immigration, we MUST support the GOP because the WAR IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

Well, I agree, the war IS the most important thing.

I am also a realist.
The Republican candidate isn't just "flawed". He's corrupt and can't handle money. He can't be TRUSTED. Republicans are NOT going to turn out in droves for the guy. And Independents are the plurality in this state. You think that Independents, who do not give a crap about EITHER party for party's sake, are going to turn out and vote for a Republican everyone knows is corrupt before the election even starts?

It isn't going to happen.
Either Lieberman keeps the seat, and his seat continues to support the war (the MOST important thing, according to Republicans a month ago in the immigration debate), or Lamont gets the seat and opposes the war.

The Republican candidate doesn't have a chance. He is too flawed, in ways that make him PARTICULARLY unsuited to exposure to the pressures of monetary corruption. Are we really going to send a guy with massive, hidden gambling debts into the special-interest mosh-pit of Washington?
Give me a break.
It's not happening.

Lieberman can win, and probably will, and his seat will stay pro-war.
That's the best we can do, so we need to get behind the concept and do what's best for the country.

Even if we disagree with him on other things.

But Bill Clinton did get in front of a camera and did a pro-Lieberman anti-Lamont ad, Joe can use that to his advantage.

Not anymore.

The Democratic primary is over. THOSE people have spoken.
The rest of the general electorate are Republicans and Independents, and neither of them are going to be swayed (positively) by a Clinton endorsement.

I almost fell out of bed when I saw him, he's older, but when they open their mouths they could be twins. What was interesting is I dog the impression he practically moved to Conn to work for Lamont on behalf of his brother (Soros). I'm suprised more people aren't concerned that a non-native American is spending his billions to take over our country and our political parties to turn it into his corrupt view of Socialism.

Well, if you want to celebrate the demise of a decent public servant like Joe Lieberman along with your Dummies, I guess that is your right. However, I don't see how the victory of the wingnut fringe of the Democrat party is a good thing. There's a chance that they could win it all, and that would seriously damage America and could lead to more civilian deaths at the hands of Bin Laden.. Frankly, I'm rooting for Joe Lieberman all the way; he's a good, principled man, who can disagree with his opponents on the issues without being disagreeable.

As for the 2000 election, it's my belief that Algore was the one that dragged it out to the very end considering who unhinged he's become since he lost the 2000 election. Lieberman was just the VP candidate (along with being very loyal) and went along for the ride.

In spite of the conventional wisdom, I actually think that ol' Joe is heading on a one way spiral down the road to political obscurity. He has basically put his entire party in a position where they either admit that they are backing an idiot instead of the person who would be better for Connecticut and America or they betray their own nominee.

And Joe will end up like Bob Smith, Pat Buchanan and Zell Miller with no friends and no influence after they betrayed their party - regardless of the sanity or sanctity of their decision. Without a party, you are politically screwed and I think Joe is about to find out what its like to try to make friends when every special interest regretfully announces to him that they can't cross party lines. If Joe wins, are the Dems going to let him caucus with them and maintain his committee assignments? Nope!!! Its a lose/lose situation and he would be better to maintain his future political viability and just take this one for the team. There is no honor in this but then what kind of honor is there is being a party who roots for Americans to lose in Iraq and killing babies in the third trimester?

LIEberman's a liar. Look at all the crapola in this one interview

"Yeah, Jim, I mean, and that is really at the heart of it. I certainly believe that a majority of people who went to cast their votes in Florida on Election Day intended to vote for Al Gore and me.

You are exactly right. He's a drunkard clinging to the mini bar.

The rejection of a majority of his party's voters must feel like a kick in the gut.

It should really be no surprise to him... the majority of his party really hate Jews and have recently come out of the closet... the war against Hezbollah has made this painfully obvious...

Today, we learned that Al Qaeda had a plot to slaughter British tourist going to NYC and Disney World and Americans returning from London, and you're still whining about the 2000 Election (which Bush won, last time I checked).

As today demonstrated, having Lamont and his cronies in power could have led to the death of thousands of American and British civilians. Lieberman MUST win because the survival of America depends upon it.

Just an FYI — this thread (see date) has been atop the “Popular” sidebar for several day.

I was wondering about that, too.

A lot of the “Popular” threads seem to have outlasted their sell-by dates lately. What’s up with that? Is this some sort of weird site bug?
