Carter: Bush pursuing 'erroneous' policy

Former President Carter, who helped broker the historic Camp David peace accord, said President Bush has pursued an "erroneous policy" that has fostered violence in the Middle East.

Carter said the United States should work for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah and the world community should concentrate on a long-term solution, but he is uncertain whether Bush can accomplish a cease-fire.

"It depends on whether world opinion is strong enough to get the administration to change its erroneous policy, which has been to encourage the continuation of attacks on both sides," Carter, a Democrat, told The Grand Rapids Press in an interview Friday.

Carter's comments came a day before the U.S. and France agreed on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution that calls for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but would allow Israel to defend itself if attacked.

As president, Carter helped broker the Camp David peace accord between Israel and Egypt, the first peace deal between the Jewish state and an Arab nation.

"In my opinion, maybe the worst ally Israel has had in Washington has been the George W. Bush administration, which hasn't worked to bring a permanent peace to Israel," Carter told the newspaper.

Takes a lot of chutzpah for a guy who almost single-handedly ushered in the Islamic Revolution to make this accusation.

Before the "clash of civilizations" is over Carter will have as much blood dripping from his claws as Hitler, Stalin or Mao. Way to go, you despicable puke.

Thanks for you wonderful insight, Jimmuh. I'm sure that your Middle East policies are much better than all others. In fact, why don't we ask some of the former American hostages in Iran about that? Oops! My mistake! They weren't "hostages", they were "guests". Job well done Mr. Carter. I'm sure that they enjoyed their stay in Iran.

"the world should focus on a long term solution"

Sounds familiar, i.e. the Bush plan.

Because of Carter--DIRECTLY because of this guy--we have what is happening now. I think in the grand scheme of things, the Marines murdered in Lebanon and 9-11 can be traced to his failed policies.
LIBERALS ARE AND HAVE BEEN WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, DAMN-IT!!!
They can NEVER betrusted with the country's welfare domestically and internationally.

I've never been much interested in politics, and didn't pay much attention at all to Carter when he was in office. What classifies him in my mind was when he cancelled the B-1 bomber program. The B-1 was/is light years ahead of the old B-52 bomb truck, and Carter didn't think we would ever need such a heavy blunt instrument in our newly enlightened era. Ever since then I've been I've been watching him try to appease the savages one way or another.

Carter: the worst president we have ever had in washington. Still misguided and now, additionally, dementia is setting in. Someone put him under wraps so he stops embarrassing himself and his country.

Hey Jimmah, how 'bout the U.S. helps Israel kick the snot out of the Hezzies so that they have NO MORE WEAPONS to shoot??

It's called VICTORY. Ever hear of that, you little girlie boy?!

Camp David only happened because Egypt became willing to accept Israel's existence.

Exactly. Anwar Sadat, a man the likes of whom the Muslim world had not seen before nor has seen since, decided to put down the sword.

The rubish Jimmy Carter had nothing to do with it.

Because of the peanut man's efforts at undermining a pro-Western govt in Iran, the radicals took over in 1979 and now Iran is where it is at now.

This is Carter's legacy.

Carter's irrational hatred of Bush is clouding this judgment, he should just shut up.

I disagree. It's not a so-called peace treaty. Eqypt hasn't attacked Israel since. Carter gets credit for securing peace between Eqypt and Israel. It's after all the only productive thing he accomplished.
