Can you imagine Cicero cowering before the sharp tongue of a nagging wife, who did not cower before an emperor?

If it can happen to Al Bundy, it can happen to anyone.

Very much agreed.
However the writer misses a very key component. THIS generation is fighting, and these wars are forging real men (as a 3 time veteran I have seen it). The problem is that the people who make decisions and policy are of the generation of "non-men" who lack the spines these soldiers have earned (I'm talking to you Teddy Kennedy, Harry Reid, and even some of my failing republicans Pat Buchanan, and WFB).
The only good news is that the next generation of leaders will have the men that this generation lacks. I only hope that there is a country worth defending.

I've got a buddy who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, he now has 7 kids. 3 boys. The oldest being 11.

He recently sold out of the suburbs and moved to a small farmette 90 miles away. He wants to raise his family on the things that really matter, God, Family, and Friends. In that order.

He wants to raise his kids to have responsibility, to look out for each other. That life isn't about themselves. That hard work is good. And rewarding.

For his boys, he wants them to be country boys. Self sufficient, but humble, and helpful. To raise animals, and understand the circle of life. To hunt, not just for "sport", but to provide. To camp, not just a backyard adventure, but a wilderness experience.

He wants me to take him and the boys backpacking out west, and climbing, so that his boys can open their eyes, and see God's beauty. But to realize that all the beauty of life takes work.

His boys will grow up and respect their mother, and respect, AND protect their sisters. The focus for his raising them is for them to be REAL men. Godly men.

"Women are not to blame for the demasculization of the American man. It is men who have allowed this to happen, it is the fathers who shirk their responsibility to their sons and the young men who choose the soft and easy way of leisure over the less comfortable path of discipline who are to blame."

Blaming women falls into the exact same category as using women and children as human shields...

The author should quit reading about men and go talk to a few. Real men are still building this country and serving in the military. They haven't gone away.

I'm waiting for the day Hollywood stops getting their leading men from the local modeling agency. They would find better examples from our heroes who put in their time in Afganistan and Iraq.

Good question. The Duke would no doubt be shocked by the on-going attempt to geld of the American male. Maybe one day, if and when he ceases to be spinning in his grave like a top (which he may be doing) he should be asked somehow.
