A decision by Israel's highest court has triggered fears of a "third intifada."
On Tuesday, the Israel Supreme Court upheld a request by far-right Jewish activists that they be allowed on Thursday to enter Islam's third holiest shrine, the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, which is also revered by Jews as the Temple Mount.
The decision to allow the controversial visit to the east Jerusalem mosque compound was taken despite police warnings that it could spark riots in Israel and the occupied territories.
The small Temple Mount Faithul group requested to visit the compound, where according to Jewish tradition Herod's Temple stood, to mark the Jewish day of mourning for its destruction in 70 B.C.
But despite its controversial decision, the court ordered the group's leader, Gershon Salomon, to stay clear from the area of the Temple Mount or the adjacent Western Wall.
The court also ruled that the far-right group, which counts only a few dozen members, should "not be allowed to carry placards or act in a provocative manner."
Arab Knesset Member Talab El-Sana warned that the permit will ignite a "third Intifada," Israelnationalnews.com reported.
Israeli Arab MP Mohammed Barakeh agreed, telling Agence France-Presse that allowing the activists to enter the compound would lead to a flare-up.
"The decision is petrol in the hands of declared pyromaniacs and could lead to further violence," he said.
A similar court decision in July 2001 sparked bloody clashes in Jerusalem in which 15 Israeli policemen and 18 Palestinians were wounded.
It was 70 AD.
(Go Israel, Go! Slap 'Em Down Hezbullies.)
non-issue anyway this year. As usual, the local police refused to let Moslem men younger than 45 into the area, and no non-Moslems at all.
And so, the Third Temple people did their ritual cornerstone laying as close as they could, and the riots that might have happened, didn't.
This goes on most years, btw. It's not a new thing.
The ruling was that if the Mount was open for non-Moslems, the group had the right to go. It wasn't so they didn't.
They have the right to go to the Temple mount. Whereas the Islamic claim to the site is completely specious - the "Night Journey" of Mohammed is a bizarre fable.
It's not a holy shrine to the Arabs. That friend of Hitler and spiritual founder of Palestinian nationalism, Mufti Haj el Amin Husseini, invented that story of a connection to the Temple Mount to hassle the Jews.
It was AD 70.
This should be in breaking news. It is a poke in the eye to the Hezbolla and its supporters.

Israeli court opens Al-Aqsa to Jewish extremist group
Compiled by Daily Star staff
Israel's high court Tuesday upheld a request by far-right Jewish activists to enter Islam's third holiest shrine, the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, in a move likely to spark riots in Israel and the Occupied Territories. Meanwhile, three Palestinians, including two teenagers were killed in Israeli attacks, as the army rolled into the southern Gaza Strip and shelled sites near Rafah airport. Palestinian security sources said the tanks, backed by heavy bulldozers, entered the Dahaniyya district.
The small Temple Mount Faithful group requested to visit the compound, where according to Jewish tradition Herod's Temple stood, to mark the Jewish day of mourning for its destruction in 70 BC.
In its decision, the high court said that Jewish petitioners " ... will be allowed to enter Temple Mount during visiting hours."
Arab Israeli MP Mohammad Barakeh said in reaction that allowing the activists to enter the compound would lead to a flare-up.
"The decision is petrol in the hands of declared pyromaniacs and could lead to further violence," he said.
A similar court decision in July 2001 sparked bloody clashes in Jerusalem in which 15 Israeli policemen and 18 Palestinians were wounded.
On the ground, meanwhile, Ahmad Abu Qaeda and Mervat Abu Sharekh, a 24-year-old woman, were killed by a shell in the Al-Nada area of the town of Beit Lahiya, they said.
Also Tuesday, a 15-year-old Palestinian girl, Sumayya Okal, died from injuries that she received from an Israeli tank shell in Jebaliya in Gaza on July 27.
Meanwhile, the deputy speaker of the Palestinian Parliament, an independent lawmaker close to Hamas, said Tuesday Israel has freed him after a month in detention.
Hassan Khreisheh was arrested along with dozens of Hamas officials and ministers following the June 25 capture of a soldier by militants from the Gaza Strip. Khreisheh told Reuters he had been freed late on Sunday.
Unlike the Hamas members, Khreisheh was not charged. "I was arrested and interrogated for incitement," Khreisheh said. "I am not Hamas. I ran as an independent, but the Hamas ministers who were with me in jail are in a difficult position ... It doesn't look like they will be released soon." - Agencies

You forgot to add the "Idiots Alarm"
People who kill each other over what rock is "holier" are morons.
"where according to Jewish tradition Herod's Temple stood"
This is historical fact, not just Jewish tradition. Furthermore, it is also the site where King Solomon's Temple stood.
That too.
The death cult should get it's come-lately mosque off the original site of Solomon's temple.
I love how they describe this as "Islam's third holiest site".
How about, "there are Muslims occupying Judaism's holiest site"?
At least that would be non-judgmental, neutral reporting.
The bad news, and indeed the good news, is that they're not Arabs.
And the Daily Star is an unfriendly Lebanese publication.

Yep, and if it was not a holiest site of the Jews, it would not even rate as being a holy site of Islam.
IIRC, the C2CAM guest last night asserted that there's a significant possibility/probability that a Hezbollah Iranian nuke missle will errantly take out the Dome of the Rock.
An interesting contention. But how then, could a new Temple be built on the site? Unless it was a fusion bomb, the radiation residue would be too great and long lasting, wouldn't it? If it was a fusion bomb/missle, wouldn't the devestation be too great?
The C2CAM guest noted that it would need to be either an Arab bomb that did it or an earthquake else the Muslim hostility at the Israeli's doing it would create a massive onslaught against Israel world wide.
Interesting contentions anyway.
The guy was tentative but convinced, as I recall.
No Muslim has ever been able to answer the following logically and sanely:
Question to a Muslim--you construe God to be generous and kind, right?
Yes.
You seek to be like Him, right?
Yes.
So, you have quite a number of holy cities of which Mecca and Medina are the top two, right?
Yes.
The Jews and Christians have one. The Jews are your half brothers. Why not give them Jerusalem? It would be a kind, Godly thing to do!
%$%#^&$^&$^%#&^%&^#%#$&^$! is about the substance of any reply from any Muslim. Reason and sanity goes right out the window on the wings of their demonic theology.
Is it really possible to have a proper intifada when you are getting your butts kicked in an all out war? Haven't heard much from Hamas lately.
