"Federal case in sting trial detailed
Documents show former wife of accused man is ready to testify about an anti-Semitic statement"
By MICHELE MORGAN BOLTON, Staff writer
First published: Saturday, August 12, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "ALBANY -- The ex-wife of a city pizza owner charged in an FBI counterterrorism sting is ready to testify next month that he once told her he hates Jews, according to court papers filed by federal prosecutors.
The woman, who split from Mohammed Mosharref Hossain in 1992, also claims he married her to obtain a green card and then divorced her once he was naturalized, documents said.

Hundreds of pages of information now part of the record in U.S. District Court in Albany offer more insight into the federal case against Hossain and Yassin Muhiddin Aref, a Kurdish refugee and mosque leader who moved to Albany with his family in 1999."

ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Aref has been denied bail five times.

Federal authorities describe the mosque leader as a religious scholar with strong links to some of the world's most notorious terrorists, including Mullah Krekar, founder of a violent Iraqi terrorist organization with ties to al-Qaida.

Defense lawyers said the case against Hossain is "guilt by association." They hope to ban the testimony of two witnesses who are experts on missiles and the formation and structure of Islamist groups, their ideology and members."
