A comment from Jane Fendelman's website:

A THOUGHTFUL APPROACH TO ADHD, July 22, 2001

Niki Nymark, MSW, LCSW (St. Louis, MO USA)

As a clinical professional, I can recommend this book to parents, teachers and others who work or live with children diagnosed with ADD, ADHD and related problems. The author builds on her experience and excellent theoretical knowledge to describe behavioral alternatives to a medication model of treatment. A staunch opponent of drug therapy for children, Ms. Fendelman provides reassuring, sensible advice for parents--and some laughter along the way.

My son's teachers told us he was "hyper" back in the 1980's. They thought he should be medicated.
We thought he was just a normal boy with lot's of energy who was being forced to sit in a chair all day and be a good little "girly-man" for his female teacher.
We pulled him out of school and "home schooled" him for a few years.
He's now a college graduate and officer in the Air Force.
ADD is what all normal boys have. Now that they've done away with recess in grade schools there's no outlet for these boys.
Pity
