"But I know what it's all about. He's highly active and easily bored. He can focus very well when he's interested in a topic. But he needs the information processed very quickly. He can pick up information very quickly watching TV/video or using a computer CD, and he has an excellent memory. He just doesn't have much patience. He's very kinesthetic - he has to move around, not sit still. "
Both me and my son are ADD. You described my son perfectly. We both take Metadate, me when I need something important done, my son 5 days a week and 7 during hockey season.
We combined the medication with establishing a set of goals and periodic reviews. I did this to keep him focused on tasks and results. His grades went up from C's to B's and A's. I also have him in music.
It works so I am not going to change anything. While I am against medication, unless schools are ready to change where they take the distractions away, then medication is the way for us to go.

If ADD and the other supposed disorder were prevalent used by the medical establishment when I was a child in the fifties and sixties, eighty percent of us would have been drugged. I daydreamed all through grade school and most of high school. I didn't have a learning or attention disorder, I was a normal boy who was bored with school. Like just about every other kid usually boys. I read a lot of books from the school libraries, so it doesn't mean I was disinterested in learning. It's just that's it's very difficult for young boys to pay attention to dull teachers for hours on end. I doubt todays kids are different from yesterdays kids in that regard.
Please pass that to your son for me, it will be lit for him this evening!
By nature, I'm VERY anti drug. So much so, I don't even take Novocaine when having fillings.
ADHD is a hot button with me because is so over diagnosed. Ritalin works well and helps a lot of people. But it gets VERY abused.
There are many alternative explanations for restlessness, including a lack of discipline at home, family problems, poor nutrition, boring classes and whole language reading instruction which can induce dyslexia.
Anyone who reads a bible knew this was a myth.
>>>>poor nutrition

bump!
Chemical additives!
I use a medication a tranquilizer actually to deal with it when it went more progressive in nature in my mid 30's. If I didn't I'd be an agoraphobic most likely. I never underestimate the power of prayer either :>} But part of coming to terms with these disorders if you have them is understanding them. Not understanding & the not knowing the reason for a problem can lead to a lot of self doubt and feeling of failure when actually a lot has been overcame.
I read the Bible and I know it's not a myth. ADD ADHD is real but not to the extent we now see. Most cases are misdiagnoses of similar disorders. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Bible except that faith helps to deal with it.
Most of what the pseudo science of psychology puts out is little more that witchcraft. To suggest that people by the millions need drugs and therapy is a major scam. Reading the bible is a great reminder of how people used to live without the aid of psychologists and their drugs.
ADD is real. Remember this lady has her own methods for treating this and a book ($$$$$$). Remember follow the money trail. You could do the same with the pharma companies but ask any parent who has an ADD kid if it is real or a myth.
Read my post in here. There's more to this than what you are thinking. Note my sources too. No mention of Ritalin.
What are you saying in 98? People's minds are so delicate that announcements render them helpless to buy things at wally world? That's rediculous.
Nonsense. I personally have a very severe case of ADD.
Life expectancy at birth in the United States in 1901 was 49 years. At the end of the century it was 77 years, an increase of 57%. People must have been reading their Bible more in the 20th century
Bible reading is great but so is modern, God given medicine.
Psalm 90:10 The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
My B.A. is in history and I'm working on my M.A. in that as well.
PR news. Thought that read a whole lot like an advertisement. MIRACLE CURE!!! BUY A BOTTLE FOR JUST $5!!! ALL YOUR PROBLEMS WILL DISAPPEAR!!!
Next time on a busy night watch how agiated people become.. Better yet go to an anxiety discussion board and see how many posters hate that place. Walmart and Home Depot are the two worse..., Keep in mind this is for persons who have sensory processing disorders which can including sound level filtering as well. But Vestibular disorders greatly effect concentration and the persons ability for multi-tasking. Vestibular Disorders are linked to C.A.P.D. a close in symptom set of disorders to ADD ADHD..
Which says nothing to negate my point that modern medicine is a God given asset to help us realize our alloted 70 years.
I have high blood pressure and take medication for it. I am 61 and could kick off today from any number of things but I do what's neccessary to prolong my life. Although I don't want to die, I have no fear of it because I am assured that there's something better than life on earth.
I don't know how old you are but you could die today too brother, regardless of how well you are following Biblical teachings.
