Murtha / Irey race getting national focus
Boot Murtha / Rightroots ^ | 8/1/06 | Unknown

Posted on 08/01/2006 11:29:37 AM PDT by Coop

The Republican National Committee's eCampaign Director -- Patrick Ruffini -- has sent out an e-message to America. Writes Ruffini:

"A group of prominent conservative bloggers is turning discussion into action with the launch of Rightroots – an effort to support some of the most important House and Senate candidates of this election cycle..."

A visit to the newly online "Rightroots" website shows a listing of GOP candidates deemed "the most important House and Senate candidates for this 2006 election cycle." Included in this select group: Diana Irey -- Congressman John Murtha's PA District 12 opponent!

The brand new website serves as a collecting house as well. Visitors can contribute to any or all of the selected candidates. As of today, candidate Diana Irey has received the most $$ contributions.

This national highlighting of the Pennsylvania race between Irey and Murtha underscores what BootMurtha.com is saying: Rep. John Murtha is an all-American problem. More and more Americans are realizing this and are contributing what they can in time, talent and money to unseat this congressman.

AmishDude,

Murtha is running around the country now campaigning for 41 other Dem House candidates because he wants to be Majority Leader if the DemocRATS regain control of the House.

Isn't this somewhat arrogant on his part? It's like he is saying: "My seat is secure; I don't even have to campaign." If I was in his PA-12, I'd be greatly offended at that.

What say ye?

Geez, Diana's totals on Rightroots have jumped over $300 just since this thread was posted!

I never lived in the 12th (but I did live in Pittsburgh once) and I'd figure that he does need to campaign for his seat, but given the demographics of his district, he has a reason to feel cocky. Like I said, some of these people wouldn't even listen to Nancy Pelosi, but they'll vote for Murtha every time (pork and veteran's status are the main reasons) and often vote for the Dem candidate for president. They often don't know why, but based on the union history and other factors, that's the way the district is.

However, if Irey can break the lock, she could be re-elected there for years to come.

FWIW, my email to the RNC:
Hi,

Please tell me how y'all are supporting Diana Irey's campaign against Jack Murtha.

I notice you have an anti-Murtha message displayed prominently on your home page.

I also notice you made no mention of Diana Irey's efforts to dethrone Murtha.

Why not?

Thanks!

and my email to Winning With Women In Pennsylvania:
Hi,

I agree 100% that women can, are and will play a key role in our country's political process.

Please tell me how y'all are supporting Diana Irey's campaign against Jack Murtha.

Thanks!

I did a search for "Irey" on the RNC site. Zero matches.

And they wonder why I won't support them. HELLO?

But, just but,if she won, at least the takeover of the House would be moot. Mike Barone thinks the House will see only a 5 seat majority for the GOP. Thus, if they lose the 10 he thinks, and she actually pulls this off, that would keep the majority. And it will be needed. Now, the Senate is another question. Hugh Hewitt wrote today, only 4 Senate seats can keep the GOP majority and he says donate to only them. I see a 51-49 GOP keeper but 50-50 with Cheney again as the tiebreaker is a real possibility. If only GOP_Conser. purists would come back to the fold, this would not be this close! abundanthope.blogspot.com/

Thank you for the kind words.

I cannot understand their stance. Are there several Repubs running against Murtha?

If there are not, their viewpoint seems to be that Murtha is unbeatable. Nice attitude!

No, Irey's unopposed. Whose viewpoint is that Murtha is unbeatable? The RNC's? No. They just have limited resources. Diana Irey needs to prove she can put together a strong team and raise significant money. She's well on her way to doing both.

Good news! The only one close to her in contributions is Michael Steele. Will ALL the money raised go to the candidate, or will the RNC take a cut?

WOW! The RNC must have been watching how well Diana has done via the internet and decided to jump on the band wagon.

In November 2004, President Bush won in heavily Democratic Cambria County.
In Murtha’s sprawling district, Bush lost by fewer than 8,000 votes. And in 2002, the district also gave Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell only a 5,208-vote margin of victory.

Don't mind me, ping.

Very good news that more people across the country are realizing that Diana Irey should retire the despicable Murtha and are willing to help make it a national issue.

Mrs. Irey is not an "insider" (which makes her all the more attractive as a candidate, IMO) so will not get much attention from the RNC. At least until she wipes up the floor in her fund raising efforts.

Mind you they had no problem sticking their noses into the primary race in RI and backing the worthless one in OH in his primary. If every Republican Senator would contribute $1000.00 to Diana's campaign she would be in good shape. I know of one that has.

Hey Patrick...I hope you are reading this thread and passing this info along.

I don't know alot about McGavick other than the Conservative Repubs consider him a moderate. He's from the Seattle area and is the former Pres and CEO of Safeco Ins. I believe he was Slade Gorton's campaign manager when Cantwell beat him. We had just moved here and I'm not up on the election 6 years ago.

Even being a moderate I believe he'll be an improvement over Cantwell and he has been gaining a little ground on her from what I read in the paper.

I think it'll be hard for him to beat her but it sounds like he at least has a chance.

Thanks for the your input. My understanding is it wouldn't take much to be an improvement over her.
