The wife and father of kidnapped Israeli soldier Ehud Goldwasser, Karnit, holding a wedding photograph, and Shlomo Goldwasser arrive at Heathrow Airport in London, Monday July 31, 2006. Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering an Israeli offensive against Lebanon that has killed hundreds of people, mostly civilians.

"the Isaelis are cutting off escape routes and degrading any route that any Syrian armored force could use"
Sounds about right

Precisely.
No good general wastes a light mobile force on a redundant blocking position...leaving....?
Time will tell.

i seriously doubt any info on that will be highly restricted and would think they would be standing waaaaaaaaaaay offshore to avoid any wrong conclusions about our intent. Just pick up a copy of the NYT tomorrow for further info. /sarc
This is for the EU... and Blair (whom I pray is playing along to keep himself and other countries attacked), if need be:

Or envelopment if they strike south and west. I don't think they're going to set up housekeeping there.
A thread with just maps of the area would be a good idea I think. I don't usually start threads here maybe someone could do it and get it "stuck" on the sidebar.
Baalbek is still in Lebanon - 34 miles north of Damascus.
I'm with you.
If they attack, Syria will launch an all-out missle Blitz on Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jeruselem, to tie up ISraeli communications before they lose all of thier launchers to counterstrike...
The MOMENT that the Syrian Armour start to move anywhere close to the border, the sky's will be full of Israeli jets and Helicopters....
Somehow, I'm reminded of the scenes from LEFT BEHIND. (Thank GOD Billy Boy isn't predident now, or I might actually believe it!!)
When is the 48 hours up? I would expect the IAF to get very busy in the valley once all routes are blocked.
May God strengthen our dear friend, Israel and bless her soldiers with stamina and focus.

Remember that Hail Mary in Desert Storm I. They used the 101st in the same way.
No, the devil's in the details here.
101AB went halfway, and was soon joined by 3ACR, followed by 24MECH.
101 then jumped the rest of the waym followed closely by 24 MECH again.
It's 53 miles from the front to Baalbeck now.
Look for other options.

I think in about half an hour.
Doesn't seem to be much regard for OPSEC, does there?
We now have the expectation of being "in" on everything.
But in California he says there should be a "soft approach"?
Doesn't make any sense, I think his cabinet in England is pressuring him.
I am around.
Perhaps he was- they're "expecting" a terrorist attack in the UK to be likely.
