MEXICO CITY Leftist Andrés Manuel López Obrador led his supporters into Mexico City's streets yesterday and launched an occupation of the nation's capital that he vowed to continue until federal electoral officials accept his demand for a recount in the presidential election.
Casting the protest as a defense of Mexico's fragile democracy, López Obrador outlined a detailed plan to close nearly two dozen main thoroughfares by setting up encampments in the heart of Mexico City's business district.
He also promised to stay with supporters day and night at a permanent camp he asked them to set up in the city's historic main plaza, the Zócalo.
This goes beyond the fact that they should recognize my triumph as president of the republic, López Obrador told a crowd of several hundred thousand supporters packed into the Zócalo yesterday. The fundamental issue is that there is democracy in our country.. . .

What you are saying, then, that if the recount STILL goes against him, Lopez-Obrador is not going to accept that finding either, and will go into a permanent protest movement, in effect paralyzing what little authority the Federal government in Mexico still has.
At which point, the few remaining Mexicans still in Mexico will be running like rabbits to get out of town before things get REALLY bad.
And you thought we had trouble controlling our borders before....
Mexicans will be turning up in Argentina.

"La Mordida" is the eternal grease that makes Mexico work. It is a real shame that Mexico's political heritage did not include the Magna Carta, Rule of Law, protection of private property as in English Law. Instead they have institutionalized corruption. Just when you think things are getting better, more s--- happens.

Keep eyes open for a Muslim connection. This would be right up their alley as far as Management of Savagery and would surely suck us in.

This almost sounds like the Gubernatorial election in Washington State, but with Mel Brooks campfire scenes.
Governor Christine "Hit until your happy" Gregoire.
Can you imagine a golf game between Bill Clinton, Christine Gregoire, Kim Jong Il, and Tiger Woods? It would be the only time in Tiger's entire career that he'd come in dead last in a match.

No rule of law. No private property rights. I've visited Mexico lots of times but would never invest a nickle.

No Muslim connection, but during the campaign the Mexican government expelled Venezuelan Chavistas, along with Bolivian activists and Cuban agents from the country for interfering in Mexico's domestic political process, a legal act under Mexican electoral law. And of course they were there to support Lopez Obrador.
The danger here is quite real, this is not something that is separate from the larger political landscape in which the Latin American Left operates.

What's he saying? 'We will keep counting and recouting until we get the results we want and we will shut down and hold the city 'hostage' until we do.' Isn't this just really just a coup attempt? Well, algore should be proud.

I think Mexico needs to take a serious look at this, at least keep a close eye on this 'occupation', the supporters of this lunacy to make sure it doesn't launch into a French style riot or trucker strike.

"Mexicans will be turning up in Argentina." Good. It's about time they learned to run the other way. Chavez will be happy- or shoot them all.

"...they should recognize my triumph as president of the republic"WHOA! When did this happen? Now he is officially UberGore. Even Al Gore never seriously claimed to be president; he just begged us to keep counting until we got it right. What is Obragore basing his conclusion on?
