Willie: Dixie Chicks 'Got a Raw Deal'
AP ^ | Sunday, July 30, 2006

NEW YORK — Willie Nelson says the Dixie Chicks "got a raw deal" from a disapproving public following their criticism of President Bush.

"I think the fact that they were overseas and onstage had a little bit to do with it because you're speaking to other people about our business," the 73-year-old country crooner said in an interview in this week's Time magazine.

The trio caught harsh criticism after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 that the group was "ashamed" Bush was from their home state of Texas.

Nelson said he was surprised his remarks about Bush a year earlier during an overseas news conference didn't incite a similar controversy.

"I said 'He's not from Texas and he ain't a cowboy, so let's stop trashin' Texans and cowboys.' It got a little chuckle, but I didn't get run out of the country," Nelson told the magazine.

Nelson recently launched his own XM Radio channel and published "The Tao of Willie," in which he offers his philosophy on subjects ranging from marijuana to war.

A quick google shows that song to be from Toby Keith. And that is the extent of my knowledge of country music. Except of course for those two beautiful country singers.

Who ever pays any attention to an old drugged out nelson anymore?--not that he doesn't think himself important.

"This American thinks those who act and sing should act and sing, and keep their political bent to themselves."

AMEN!!!
And who among us will go to Willie Nelson for an opinion.
His continued fame proves just one point "all you have to do is sing". Never mind about

.

Willie is entitled to his opinion, If he likes the Chicks , he should go on tour with them. They could maybe ruin his box office too.

Not really a good singer. A recognizable voice and guitar pattern yes, a good singer, no.

He's history, the next stop will coincide when his heart and brainwaves do, then we'll be bombarded for, oh, a week with the news of his demise.

Then the "red headed stranger" will gradually slip into oblivion, relegated to an aging fan base, obscure daytime AM stations spinning his tunes and an occasional cable newtwork tribute.

As for me, I could give a rats ass what Willie thinks as it relates to the *ixie Chicks, music and politics.

There's no Dixie in these "chicks."

The worst concert i've ever been to (and i've been to scores) was the Moody Blues several years ago. A close second was ZZTop which was just too staged for my liking. I tried Ted Nugents show three times, really wanting to like it, but was always disappointed.

The best would of course include the numerous Pink Floyd shows i've seen and every single Skynyrd show i've been to.

The concert which i liked and wasn't expecting to like (i was dragged kicking and screaming) was The Who in San Jose several years ago. I never cared for their music but that concert was just terrific.

"Sorry, the Dixie chicks aren't so attractive"

They're not chicks now, they are Dixie Hens.
Too old to be called a chick.
With all the beautiful young girls coming on the scene with real talent, who would want to see the ole hens?

The liberal press continues to blame the low esteem of the U.S. on Bush, but fails to mention the Ditsy chicks, Frankin, and other Dems that go oversees to trash the U.S.

Willie is a hell of a song writer and singer but a boob when it comes to national and international affairs --like most celebrities

Willie, you need to STFU!
From a former fan in Texas.
BTW, you're becoming an embarrassment yourself.

On the commode again
Just can't wait to be on the 'mode again
Where I'll think of Dixie Hens
And try to justify their sins
No, I just can't wait to get on that commode again...

Who gives a sh** what these ignorant singers think about politics, seriously? Even my very liberal friends that are 22-26 think its humerous that anyone takes celebrities seriously about anything but fashion or acting.

My 'rents saw the Moody Blues in the early 90s in GSO, NC and loved it. I was 9 at the time and didn't like anything but metal or rap. Now I love the Moody Blue's Music.
