"I am therefore not sure what you're saying. "
It's clear enough.
"Yes, Franco was a Fascist, allied with the equally wonderful and confused Mussolini and Mussolini's fave buddy, Hitler."
What does that got to do with the fact that he decisively WON won a civil war against an entity that wasn't a " clear definition of the enemy state", contrary to your statement that:
"Absent a clear definition of the enemy state, it is impossible to wage and decisively win a war"
Its totally irrelevant if Franco was fascist, allied with Hitler or whatever.
Your statement has been proved wrong. Period.
You just keep trying to change the subject to something that has nothing to do with it.
You can wiggle all you want, its not going to save ya sorry ass.
To: cake_crumb
It's "Khalifah".
Khalifah.
Riiight.
To: cake_crumb
"So your point refutes Franco's' own and a number of established historians. What was your point?"
My point is this statement here:
"Absent a clear definition of the enemy state, it is impossible to wage and decisively win a war"
Is wrong.

'What does that got to do with the fact that he decisively WON won a civil war against an entity that wasn't a " clear definition of the enemy state"...'
That he exucuted between 100,000 and 200,000 non-combatants who did not fall under the definition of enemy of the state in order to do it. This is his own admission - actually, he claimed to have executed more - and defies his contention that civil wars are not won by fighting people with no clear definition as enemies of the state.
I STILL don't see how the Spanish Civil War analogizes with this long-running conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. Hezbollah fights for a non-existant Pali state and therefore does fall under the difinition of "enemy of the state" as terrorists, but not under any definition of revolutionaries because they're not fighting for a state.

Totally irrelevant to my post.
My post is focused on debunking a vey broad statement made by a poster on this thread, which was:
"Absent a clear definition of the enemy state, it is impossible to wage and decisively win a war"
Period.
I am not interested in the morals of Franco or the morals of the Algerian government that was also able to squash an insurgency that run against the Algerian government for over 10 years.
I am interested in proving that "Absent a clear definition of the enemy state" it HAS been possible to win decisive victories?
Can you get that into ya very thick skull?

7 hours before it fell (Haaretz) I JUST ASKED MY ISRAELI FRIEND what that meant he said,,,, hezbollah didnt allow the rescuers in...... till after it collapsed....Well you don't have to be Robert Ludlum to see where this is headed.
The Hezbollah forced those people into there and blew it up themselves.
Just look at both sides involved and tell me it's not plausable.
All this hand-wringing is getting me down. That graphic of Dresden earlier in the thread should be evidence whose morality is superior.
Hezbollah, and by extension Lebanon, has declared all out war on Israel. They are using rockets indiscriminately.
HELLO??? Is anybody lucid?
Dresden Photo and middle finger to the United Nations.
Commence firing.

Posting to a "live" thread isn't the ONLY way to do things... I also don't follow those super long "live" threads. That is the beauty of having people post news as they see it. It helps all of us find the latest stories/news without having to read 100's of posts and find the details through sheer luck.
If everyone was as "uptight" as you about posting, this geat board wouldn't be what it is... A great place to find up to date conservative news and viewpoints.
Just my 2 cents worth... take it or leave it...

I'm glad he didn't. The "Live" threads are mostly chat and nearly impossible to glean any information from. It's much better when breaking news is posted in breaking news as it happens.I see the light. Do I still get my thirty lashes? ;^)

I avoid the "live" thread like the plague. Full of small talk totally unrelated to this war, and hard to find actual news. Seemed like a good idea when they set it up, but now it seems more like a chat room.***************
I avoid the live threads as well. Page after page of nonsense, boring as can be. No thanks.

"WTF????
I already apologized.
Can you see now how important facts (like your apology) can get overlooked when they are buried WAY DOWN in a thread?"
I also apologize for piling on, that is exactly what happened to me. Your apology was far below where I saw your initial post. I think the post listed above shows exactly how that happens with a very long thread like this one!

Do I still get my thirty lashes?I think you already did. My post was the 30th (I should view replies before replying myself, sorry about that).
To: DCPatriot
"Thanks for those tips."
LOL.
As the one to deliver the first of the thirty lashes (maybe up to fifty now), let me say I feel for ya (actually, mine wasn't a lash, just a little comment (#8)). With Israel suspending the air campaign for a day or so, your suggestion of posting items to the live thread and the surrounding controversy, has moved up to the number one news item. I think Fox News will be doing a segment on you shortly.

You know I've been watching this whole ordeal since it was first reported and I am absolutely in shock in how almost every government is willing to believe the worst about Israel and have nothing to say about a militant terrorist group that purposely puts innocent women, child and old men between them and their enemies. I'm talking, of course, about Hezbollah.
Then again, maybe I'm not in shock after all, but I'm telling you what, I am sick and tired of Israel and the USA being blamed for what's going on in Lebanon when the Hezbollah is the one who started the whole ruckus by crossing the border and kidnapping Israeli soldiers.
If I wasn't raising kids right now and tied down to that I'd be on the first plane over there to fight on the side of Israel and I'd take out as many of them terroristic nutbags from Islam as I could.
This nation better wake up because this same kind of fighting could happen right here.
